Ubiquiti UDR7 vs UX7 vs UDR-5G-Max — Which WiFi 7 Gateway Do You Need?

All three run the same UniFi WiFi 7 platform — 2.3 Gbps IDS/IPS, 300+ clients, 160 m² WiFi coverage and wireless rates up to 5.7 Gbps — so the choice comes down to connectivity. The UDR7 (Dream Router 7) adds a 10G SFP+ WAN port, multi-WAN support and a built-in UniFi Protect NVR with pre-installed 64 GB storage for up to 5 cameras. The UX7 (Express 7) is the compact entry point with a single 10 GbE WAN, and the UDR-5G-Max adds 5G cellular WAN with dual SIM/eSIM for wireless or backup internet.

All are managed by the built-in UniFi applications with no subscriptions or licensing fees. Scale coverage later by adding UniFi WiFi 7 access points, or step up to a rack-mount gateway on our Ubiquiti UniFi Cloud Gateways guide. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions — Ubiquiti UDR7

What is the Ubiquiti UDR7 Dream Router 7?

The UDR7 is Ubiquiti's WiFi 7 all-in-one gateway: a UniFi Cloud Gateway with integrated WiFi 7 (up to 5.7 Gbps wireless), a 10G SFP+ WAN port, 2.3 Gbps IDS/IPS security, support for 300+ clients and 30+ managed UniFi devices, plus a built-in UniFi Protect NVR with a pre-installed 64 GB microSD card.

How fast is the UDR7?

The UDR7 supports 802.11be (WiFi 7) rates up to 5.7 Gbps with 320 MHz channels, covers about 160 m2, and inspects traffic at up to 2.3 Gbps with IDS/IPS enabled - enough to run full security on multi-gigabit fibre plans.

What is the difference between the UDR7, UX7 and UDR-5G-Max?

All three share the same WiFi 7 platform, 2.3 Gbps IDS/IPS and 300+ client capacity. The UDR7 adds a 10G SFP+ WAN, up to 4 WAN ports and a built-in NVR for 5 cameras; the UX7 is the compact entry model with a single 10 GbE WAN and no NVR; the UDR-5G-Max matches the UDR7 and adds 5G cellular WAN with dual nano-SIM/eSIM.

Can the UDR7 record security cameras?

Yes. The UDR7 runs UniFi Protect with a pre-installed 64 GB microSD card and records up to 5 HD, 2 2K or 1 4K UniFi camera - ideal for a doorbell and a couple of cameras without a separate NVR, with no licensing fees.

Does the UDR7 support 10G internet?

Yes. The default WAN is a 10G SFP+ port (plus a 2.5 GbE RJ45), so it connects directly to multi-gigabit fibre services, and up to 4 ports can be configured as WAN for failover and load balancing.

How many devices can the UDR7 handle?

The UDR7 supports 300+ simultaneous client devices and manages 30+ UniFi network devices (APs, switches) - and you can extend WiFi coverage by adding UniFi access points managed from the UDR7 itself.

Does the UDR7 need a controller or subscription?

No. The UniFi Network and UniFi Protect applications run directly on the UDR7 with no cloud subscription, controller hardware or licensing fees.
