The ARC DATA ARC-OLT-8X in depth

Eight combo PON ports, each switchable on its own

The ARC-OLT-8X is a 1U access node with eight XG(S)-PON and GPON combo ports. Every port runs combo mode by default and can be hot-switched to single GPON mode independently, so you can commission on GPON and move individual PONs to 10G as demand arrives, without replacing the node or re-engineering the ODN.

Uplink and switching capacity

Uplinks are 1 x GE RJ45, 4 x 25GE SFP28 and 2 x QSFP28 at 40, 50 or 100GE, on a 1960 Gbps backplane with a 566.928 Mpps forwarding rate. The integrated Layer 2 / Layer 3 switch adds 4096 VLANs, QinQ, LACP, static and dynamic routing (RIP, RIPng, OSPF v2/v3), IPv6 and RADIUS/TACACS+.

Power, surge and environment

The node is ordered with single or dual AC or DC feeds, carries 6 kV surge protection on the power input and 4 kV on device interfaces, and operates from -20 °C to +60 °C. It draws 150 W and is cooled by four fans, so it belongs in a rack or cabinet.

Managed centrally

Manage it by CLI over console, Telnet or SSH, by web or by SNMP, with ONT auto-discovery, online ONT configuration and remote software upgrade, or centrally through the ARC VISION Cloud Platform.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the ARC DATA ARC-OLT-8X from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed November 2026.

An OLT (optical line terminal) is the head-end of a passive optical network. It connects to your network through its uplinks and serves the ONUs at each premises over single-mode fibre and passive splitters. The ARC-OLT-8X has eight PON ports, each split up to 1:256.

Yes. All eight ports run XG(S)-PON and GPON combo mode by default, and any port can be hot-switched to single GPON mode independently. The standards live on a port depend on the optical module fitted: an N2_C+ combo module, or a Class C++++ module for single GPON mode.

Yes, port by port. Because each of the eight ports switches independently, some can stay on single GPON while others run XG(S)-PON combo, so the upgrade is phased across the node.

The optical splitting ratio is 1:256 maximum and 1:128 recommended per port. The practical figure depends on your optical budget and the distance to the furthest ONU.

Up to 20 km from the OLT to the furthest ONU, on GPON, XG-PON and XGS-PON.

1 x GE RJ45, 4 x 25GE SFP28 and 2 x QSFP28 running at 40, 50 or 100GE, against a 1960 Gbps backplane and a 566.928 Mpps forwarding rate.

Yes. It is a 1U 19-inch box, 442 x 330 x 43.6 mm and 4.8 kg, cooled by four fans and drawing 150 W.

PON optical modules (an N2_C+ combo module per combo port, or a Class C++++ module for a single-GPON port), 25GE SFP28 or 100GE QSFP28 uplink modules, your power option (one or two AC or DC feeds), plus ONUs, splitters, fibre and the ODN.
