ARC DATA ARC-ONU-1G at a glance

The ARC DATA ARC-ONU-1G is a single-port GPON/EPON optical network unit (ONU) for FTTH, office and video surveillance links. It terminates one single-mode fibre from an OLT up to 20 km away and hands off one Gigabit Ethernet port, auto-detecting EPON or GPON. It measures 82 x 82 x 25 mm, weighs 85 g and draws 4 W or less.

ARC DATA is the networking brand of the ARC group. Contact ARC IP Networks for ARC-ONU-1G availability and project pricing.

The ARC DATA ARC-ONU-1G in depth

One Gigabit port at the end of the fibre

The ARC-ONU-1G is the subscriber end of a passive optical network. It terminates the fibre arriving from the OLT through a passive splitter and presents a single Gigabit Ethernet port to the premises. It is a data unit: the customer or integrator connects their own router, switch or camera network to it.

GPON or EPON with one part number

The XPON port is dual-mode. It detects whether the OLT runs EPON (PX20+) or GPON (Class B+) and registers to it, so one SKU covers mixed fibre plants without a firmware change.

Bridge or route

The unit runs in bridge or route mode, with IPv4 and IPv6, DHCP, PPPoE, static addressing, NAT and static routing on board, plus VLAN tag, transparent and trunk modes, four QoS queues and IGMP snooping.

Small, low power and centrally managed

At 82 x 82 x 25 mm and 85 g it sits on a desk, a shelf or a bracket, drawing 4 W or less from an external 12 V adapter. It is provisioned from the OLT over OMCI, and rogue-ONU detection and Dying Gasp protect the rest of the PON.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the ARC DATA ARC-ONU-1G from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed November 2026.

A GPON ONU (optical network unit) is the device at the subscriber end of a passive optical network. It terminates the fibre coming from the OLT through a passive splitter and hands the service off as Ethernet. The ARC-ONU-1G provides one Gigabit Ethernet port and works on GPON or EPON.

Both. It is dual-mode and auto-detects the OLT, registering to either an EPON or a GPON OLT without a firmware change or a different part number.

No. NBN Co supplies and manages its own NTD at each premises, so this unit is not for NBN services. It works with your own GPON or EPON OLT on a private fibre network, such as an estate, MDU, campus, hotel or ISP build.

Either. It supports bridge and route modes, with IPv4 and IPv6, DHCP, PPPoE and static addressing, NAT and static routing.

No. It has one Gigabit Ethernet port and no Wi-Fi, so it is paired with your own router, switch or access point.

Up to 20 km over single-mode fibre terminated SC/UPC. Receive sensitivity is -27 dBm with an overload point of -8 dBm on GPON, so very short runs may need attenuation.

From the OLT over ITU-T G.984.x OMCI and CTC OAM 2.0/2.1, with local web, Telnet and CLI access and TR-069 for remote provisioning. It is also centrally managed via the ARC VISION Cloud Platform.

Both share one fibre among many subscribers through passive splitters. EPON is the IEEE 802.3ah standard at 1.25 Gbps in each direction; GPON is the ITU-T G.984 standard at 2.488 Gbps downstream and 1.244 Gbps upstream. The ARC-ONU-1G detects which one the OLT runs.

The box contains the ONU and a DC 12 V / 0.5 A power adapter. You also need a GPON or EPON OLT, single-mode fibre, a splitter and the rest of the ODN. Call ARC IP Networks on 1300 100 440 for a matched bill of materials or project pricing.
