Professional Overview

This is the narrow lens in the Standard Theta range, and at 36.2° horizontal it is tighter than any of the Professional lenses. Ubiquiti positions it for capturing detail in business-critical spaces — retail point of sale being the stated example, where reading a transaction matters more than seeing the room.

The distinction from the Professional ProLens50 is worth understanding before choosing. Both are long-distance lenses, but this Standard version uses an 8MP CMOS sensor recording 3264 x 2448 in a 4:3 aspect, where the Professional uses a larger 1/1.8" sensor recording 3840 x 2160 in 16:9 with enhanced low-light performance and dynamic range. This lens is narrower — 36.2° against 53° — so it reaches further into a scene, but the Professional handles difficult lighting better.

It is remarkably small: ⌀22.8 x 43.5 mm and 15 g, roughly a quarter the weight of the Professional lenses. That is the point of the Theta architecture — the lens is small enough to be genuinely discreet, and the hub does the processing elsewhere. A Standard Flush Mount for flat ceiling or wall mounting is included, and it is compatible with the AI Theta Angle Mount for more flexible positioning.

Power is 5V DC at 0.5A over the Theta proprietary connection from the hub, drawing a maximum of 2.5W — there is no network port or PoE on the lens itself. Note the environmental limit: indoor only, -20 to 40°C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. Certifications are FCC, IC and CE. An AI Theta Hub is required. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this lens be used on its own?

No. It connects to a UniFi Protect AI Theta Hub, sold separately, which provides processing, network and power.

What is the field of view?

36.2° horizontal, 27.7° vertical and 44.4° diagonal — the narrowest lens in the Theta range.

What is the difference between this and the ProLens50?

This Standard lens uses an 8MP CMOS sensor recording 4:3 at 3264 x 2448 and is narrower at 36.2°. The Professional ProLens50 uses a larger 1/1.8" sensor recording 16:9 at 3840 x 2160 with better low-light performance, at 53°.

What resolution does it record?

4K — 8MP at 3264 x 2448 in a 4:3 aspect, up to 24 FPS.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. It is specified as indoor only, -20 to 40°C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity.

How is it powered?

5V DC at 0.5A over the Theta proprietary connection from the hub, drawing a maximum of 2.5W.

What mount is included?

A Standard Flush Mount for flat ceiling or wall mounting. It also works with the AI Theta Angle Mount.

How big is it?

⌀22.8 x 43.5 mm and just 15 g.

The UVC-AI-Theta-Lens-LD is powered over Ethernet (Theta proprietary, up to 2.5W), so a single cable carries both data and power. Budget that draw on the switch — PoE budget is shared across all powered ports. See the UniFi switch range for a switch with enough headroom.

This is a lens head, not a standalone camera — it requires an AI Theta hub.

Who the UVC-AI-Theta-Lens-LD suits

  • Long-distance views on a standard AI Theta hub
  • Perimeters and approaches needing reach
  • Adding a narrow-angle head to an existing Theta install

What the UVC-AI-Theta-Lens-LD needs to record

Every UniFi Protect camera records to a UniFi Protect console — a Network Video Recorder, or a Cloud Gateway or Dream Machine that runs Protect. The camera does not record to the cloud and there is no subscription: footage stays on the drive you supply.

If you are still choosing a recorder, our UniFi Protect NVR comparison covers the range, and the storage sizing guide works out how much disk you need for the number of cameras and retention you want. The full shopping list covers the drives, switch and cabling that go with it, and putting the feed on a TV covers live wall displays.
