Professional Overview

The Wide-Angle is the middle lens of the Theta Professional range and, for most rooms, the default choice. At 110.4° horizontal it takes in a large space without the geometric distortion and resolution spreading of a full 180° hemispheric lens, while still recording true 4K in a conventional 16:9 frame.

That 16:9 4K output is the practical advantage over the 360 lens. The full 8MP of the 1/1.8" sensor goes into a 3840 x 2160 rectangular image, so detail across the scene holds up in a way a square hemispheric image does not. Ubiquiti positions it for large, busy spaces — entrances and lobbies — which is exactly where you want both coverage and the ability to identify someone. Frame rate is up to 24 FPS.

The 1/1.8" sensor is the larger format in Ubiquiti's camera range, and it is what supports the enhanced low-light performance and dynamic range specified for the Professional lenses. That matters at an entrance, where a bright doorway against a dim interior is the hardest lighting a camera meets.

Physically it is the smallest of the three at ⌀36.6 x 58.9 mm and 50 g, drawing 2.5W at 5V DC over the Theta connection from the hub. A Standard Flush Mount is included, an angle mount is optional, and it works with the AI Theta Pro mount range. It is indoor only, 0 to 40°C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, certified FCC, IC and CE. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the field of view?

110.4° horizontal, 62.1° vertical and 126.6° diagonal.

What resolution does it record?

4K — 8MP at 3840 x 2160 in 16:9, up to 24 FPS, from an 8MP 1/1.8" sensor.

How does it compare to the 360 lens?

This lens records true 4K in a conventional 16:9 frame, so detail holds up better across the scene. The 360 lens covers a full 180° hemisphere but spreads 4MP across it in a square image.

Which Theta lens should I choose?

ProLens50 at 53° for detail at distance, ProLens110 at 110.4° for large spaces with identification, and ProLens360 at 180° for full panoramic coverage.

Can this lens be used on its own?

No. It requires a UniFi Protect AI Theta Hub, sold separately.

Does it support licence plate recognition?

Ubiquiti specifies plate recognition on the hub with the Long-Distance and Wide-Angle lenses, of which this is the Wide-Angle option.

Can it be used outdoors?

No. It is specified as indoor only, 0 to 40°C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity.
