Why Wi-Fi?

Cameras without the cabling

A Wi-Fi camera joins your existing wireless network, so all it needs at the install point is power — no data cable back to a switch or NVR. That makes it a fast, tidy choice for homes, rentals, shops and retrofits where cabling is impractical. You view and get alerts through the Hik-Connect app. For permanent, high-channel or critical systems a wired PoE camera is still more reliable — we can advise which suits your site.

How to choose a Wi-Fi camera

Signal: make sure the install point has strong Wi-Fi; thick walls and distance reduce reliability.

Power: Wi-Fi removes the data cable but the camera still needs a nearby power outlet.

Storage: use a microSD card and/or the Hik-Connect app; add an NVR if you want central recording.

Indoor vs outdoor: choose a weatherproof (IP-rated) model for outdoor mounting.

FAQ

Hikvision Wi-Fi cameras — questions

Do Hikvision Wi-Fi cameras need any cabling?
They don’t need a data cable, but they still need a power outlet at the install point. They connect to your existing wireless network for video and alerts.
Are Wi-Fi cameras as reliable as wired ones?
For homes and small sites they’re excellent. For permanent, multi-camera or critical systems, wired PoE is more reliable — we can recommend the right approach.
How do I view a Wi-Fi camera?
Through the free Hik-Connect app on your phone, for live view, playback and motion alerts. You can also record to a microSD card or an NVR.
Can I use Wi-Fi cameras outdoors?
Yes — choose a weatherproof, IP-rated model for outdoor mounting and make sure it’s within good Wi-Fi range.
Are these genuine Australian stock?
Yes. ARC IP Networks is an authorised Australian Hikvision reseller; all cameras are genuine local stock with a 3-year Australian manufacturer warranty.
