What is Turbo HD?

HD over your existing coax

Turbo HD is Hikvision’s HD-TVI analog-over-coax technology. It carries HD video — 2 MP (1080p) up to 8 MP — over standard coaxial cable, so you can upgrade an existing analog CCTV system to HD by swapping the cameras and recorder, keeping the cable. It needs no network or IP addressing, supports long runs, and modern Turbo HD cameras and DVRs even add AcuSense human/vehicle detection and audio over coax. It’s the cost-effective path for retrofits and sites where re-cabling for IP isn’t practical.

How to choose Turbo HD

Reuse your cable: if you already have coax (RG59), Turbo HD lets you go HD without pulling new cable.

Resolution: 2 MP (1080p) for budget, 5 MP for sharper, 8 MP for maximum detail.

DVR channels: choose a DVR with at least as many channels as cameras; many also accept some IP cameras (hybrid).

Features: newer Turbo HD models add AcuSense detection, ColorVu colour night vision and audio over coax.

Can I upgrade my old analog cameras to HD without rewiring?
Yes — that’s the main benefit. Replace the cameras and recorder with Turbo HD equivalents and reuse your existing coax cabling to get HD.
Turbo HD or IP — which should I choose?
Choose Turbo HD to upgrade an existing analog/coax system simply and affordably; choose IP for new installs needing the highest resolution, PoE and advanced analytics.
Do Turbo HD cameras have AcuSense or ColorVu?
Newer Turbo HD models do offer AcuSense human/vehicle detection and ColorVu colour night vision — check the individual model.
What recorder do Turbo HD cameras use?
