Netgear 10G Switches Compared: M4350 vs M4300 vs MS510TXM

Netgear 10G and 2.5G multi-gig switches for Australian offices, schools and server racks: M4350, M4300, MS510TXM and MS105 compared.

Netgear makes 10G switches in three families. The M4350 (XSM43xx 10G and MSM43xx multi-gig models) is the current Layer 3 stackable range, with 10G/Multi-Gig copper, SFP+ fibre, 25G SFP28 or 100G QSFP28 uplinks, Ultra90 PoE++ and redundant power options. The M4300 (XSM4316S, XSM4324CS, XSM4348S, XSM4348CS) is the stackable 10G range with 100M/1G/10G copper ports and Layer 3 routing included without a licence. The MS510TXM is an 8-port Smart switch (4 x 2.5G, 4 x 10G) with 2 SFP+ and Netgear Insight cloud management.

Quick pick: 2.5G for a desk, NAS or gaming PC → MS105; Wi-Fi 7 access points and 2.5G PoE++ with 10G and 25G uplinks → MSM4332 (or the 48-port MSM4352); Gigabit PoE+ edge with 10G fibre uplinks → GSM4352. ARC IP Networks is an authorised Netgear reseller and supplies genuine Netgear from Australian stock with a GST tax invoice.

M4350 vs M4300: which stackable 10G range?

Netgear describes the M4350 as bringing "all the simplicity from the M4250 AV Line packed in more Enterprise-class hardware with redundant power supplies and larger fabrics with 25G and 100G uplinks". In practice the differences that matter are:

  • Copper port speeds. M4350 copper ports are 10G/Multi-Gig, so they also run 2.5G and 5G for Wi-Fi access points and PCs. The M4300 10G models in our range list their 10GBASE-T ports as 100M, 1G and 10G.
  • Uplinks. M4350 V models add 25G SFP28 and C models add 100G QSFP28. The M4300 models in our range use SFP+ for everything.
  • PoE. Several M4350 models deliver PoE+ or Ultra90 PoE++ on 10G or 2.5G ports. The M4300 10G models in this guide have no PoE.
  • AV over IP. The M4350 ships pre-configured with NETGEAR IGMP Plus and has the same AV interface as the M4250, with SMPTE ST 2110 on select models.
  • Stacking. Both stack. The M4300 stacks up to 8 switches with non-stop forwarding and includes static, RIP, OSPF, VRRP and PIM routing without a licence; the M4350 offers non-stop forwarding with hitless failover across the stack, and its datasheet notes that the entire feature set is available without licence.

For a new design, the M4350 is the more flexible choice. The M4300 suits a server or storage rack that needs a straightforward mix of 10GBASE-T and SFP+ ports, or a site that already runs an M4300 stack.

10GBASE-T copper or SFP+ fibre?

10GBASE-T (RJ45) plugs straight into servers, NAS units and workstations with 10G network cards. Netgear's M4300 datasheet gives up to 55m on Cat6 and up to 100m on Cat6A or Cat7, so check the cabling in older Australian office fit-outs before promising 10G to the desk.

SFP+ ports take a fibre module or a direct attach cable (DAC). Fibre goes further, between comms rooms, floors or buildings, and a passive DAC is the low-latency, low-power option within a rack. The XSM4328FV, XSM4340FV and XSM4344FC are all-fibre M4350 models; the XSM4316, XSM4324, XSM4328CV, XSM4340CV and XSM4344C lead with 10G copper. Our Netgear SFP and SFP+ guide matches modules to cable types and switch ports.

25G SFP28 and 100G QSFP28 ports on the M4350 link switches together or connect a core. Netgear notes that each block of 4 x 25G ports runs at one speed (all 1G, all 10G or all 25G), so plan your uplinks in groups of four.

2.5G and multi-gig: often the better buy

Netgear's MS510TXM datasheet points out that at 2.5G or 5G "there is no requirement to upgrade your cabling from Cat5E". That makes multi-gig the practical upgrade for access points such as Netgear's WBE710 and WBE718 Wi-Fi 7 models, which have a 2.5G PoE+ port, and for PCs and NAS units with 2.5G ports.

  • MS105: 5 x 2.5G, unmanaged, fanless, 25Gbps non-blocking. No PoE.
  • MS108UP and MS108EUP: 8 x 2.5G with a 230W PoE budget (ports 1 to 4 Ultra60 PoE++ at up to 60W, ports 5 to 8 PoE+). The MS108EUP adds a web interface with VLANs and QoS.
  • MS510TXM and MS510TXUP: 4 x 2.5G and 4 x 10G plus 2 SFP+, managed by web interface or Netgear Insight.
  • MSM4332 and MSM4352: 24 or 44 x 2.5G plus 4 x 10G, all Ultra90 PoE++, with 4 x 25G uplinks, for whole floors of access points.
  • MSM4214X (M4250-12M2XF): 12 x 2.5G and 2 x 10G SFP+ for AV aggregation.

For a home NAS or a small office on the NBN, an MS105 next to the router is usually the simplest step up. See our home network setup guide for where it fits.

MS510TXM and MS510TXUP: 10G for a small office

The MS510TXM is a Smart switch rather than a stackable Layer 3 switch: Layer 2+ features such as 256 VLANs, ACLs, IGMP snooping and link aggregation, a web interface, and optional Netgear Insight cloud management from the Insight app or portal. Its four 10G copper ports suit a 10G NAS, a server and a couple of editing workstations, with two SFP+ for a fibre link or a DAC to another switch. The MS510TXUP makes all eight copper ports Ultra60 PoE++ at up to 60W from a 295W budget, handy for access points and PTZ cameras in a small office. Read more about cloud management in our Netgear Insight guide.

PoE budgets and redundant power on the M4350

Many M4350 models ship with a base PoE budget from the internal power supply and accept modular APS power supplies to raise it. The MSM4332 starts at 522W and reaches 2,520W; the MSM4352 starts at 194W and reaches 3,314W; the XSM4340CV goes from 280W to 1,760W. Size the power supplies for the access points, cameras and displays you will connect, and add a second supply where downtime matters, for example in a hospital, a council data room or a school's core. Our PoE switch guide explains how to add up a PoE budget.

Common questions

Straight answers from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

Both are Layer 3 stackable managed switches. The M4350 adds 10G/Multi-Gig copper (2.5G and 5G as well as 10G), 25G SFP28 and 100G QSFP28 uplinks, PoE+ and Ultra90 PoE++ models, IGMP Plus for AV over IP and SMPTE ST 2110 on select models. The M4300 10G models we list use 100M/1G/10G copper and SFP+ and stack up to 8 switches.

The M4350 XSM43xx models (8 to 40 x 10G), the M4300 XSM4316S, XSM4324CS, XSM4348S and XSM4348CS, the MS510TXM and MS510TXUP (4 x 10G copper plus 2 SFP+), and M4350 and M4250 models with 10G SFP+ uplinks.

For full distance, yes. Netgear's M4300 datasheet gives 10GBASE-T up to 55m on Cat6 and up to 100m on Cat6A or Cat7. At 2.5G or 5G, Netgear notes Cat5e is enough.

Often, yes. Netgear notes 2.5G runs on existing Cat5e, and it matches the 2.5G ports on access points such as the Netgear WBE710 and on many NAS units and PCs. The Netgear MS105 adds five 2.5G ports with no setup, and the MS108UP and MS108EUP add PoE++.

Yes. The M4350 is stackable, with non-stop forwarding and hitless failover across the stack. Netgear notes that stacking links run only at the highest speed of the stack port, for example 25G on an SFP28 port.

Yes. The MS510TXM and MS510TXUP can be managed through a web browser or switched to Netgear Insight cloud management using the Insight app or portal.

M4350 models XSM4328CV (PoE+), XSM4340CV, XSM4340V and XSM4344C (Ultra90 PoE++), the multi-gig MSM4332 and MSM4352 (Ultra90 PoE++), and the MS510TXUP (Ultra60 PoE++, 295W).
