Netgear Wi-Fi 7 Access Points: WBE710 vs WBE718 vs WBE750 vs WBE758

Netgear business Wi-Fi 7 access points, the WAX620, the Nighthawk M7 5G hotspot and LM1200 4G modem compared for Australian offices, schools and sites.

Netgear's business Wi-Fi 7 access points come in two classes. The WBE710 and WBE718 are tri-band 2x2 models with up to 9.4Gbps total throughput on one 2.5G PoE+ port; the WBE750 and WBE758 are tri-band 4x4 models with up to 18.4Gbps (maximum theoretical) on a 10G PoE++ port. The "8" models include 4 years of Netgear Insight instead of 1. The WAX620 is the Wi-Fi 6 option. Away from the office, the Nighthawk M7 (MH7150) is a 5G Wi-Fi 7 mobile hotspot and the LM1200 is a 4G LTE modem for backup internet.

Quick pick: site office, ute or travel → MH7150-100APS (5G, Wi-Fi 7, up to 32 devices); office Wi-Fi 7 on 2.5G PoE+ switching → WBE718-111APS; busy classrooms, hotels and conference rooms → WBE758-111APS; 4G backup for a small office → LM1200-100AUS. ARC IP Networks is an authorised Netgear reseller and supplies genuine Netgear from Australian stock with a GST tax invoice.

Why Wi-Fi 7 and 6GHz matter in an Australian office

Wi-Fi 6 works in the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands with channels up to 160MHz wide. Wi-Fi 7 adds the 6GHz band with 320MHz channels, and Netgear says the expanded 6GHz band gives up to 2.4 times more channels. In a shared Sydney or Melbourne CBD office building, where neighbouring networks crowd 2.4GHz and 5GHz, that less congested spectrum is the main reason to upgrade.

Netgear's WBE710 datasheet also lists Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which aggregates channels across bands into one connection for better throughput, latency and reliability, plus 4K QAM and preamble puncturing. Your laptops and phones need Wi-Fi 7 to use 6GHz and MLO; older Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E devices still connect on the bands they support. For a home rather than an office, see our Wi-Fi 7 router guide.

WBE710/WBE718 or WBE750/WBE758: 2x2 or 4x4?

The WBE710 and WBE718 run two streams on each of the three bands for up to 9.4Gbps in total: 5,765Mbps on 6GHz, 2,882Mbps on 5GHz and 688Mbps on 2.4GHz. Netgear rates the WBE710 for up to 600 users (200 per radio) and up to 232 m² of coverage. They suit most offices, clinics, shops and cafés.

The WBE750 and WBE758 double the streams to 4x4 on each band: 11,530Mbps on 6GHz, 5,765Mbps on 5GHz and 1,147Mbps on 2.4GHz, for up to 18.4Gbps maximum theoretical throughput. That is the class for lecture theatres, school classrooms full of student laptops, hotel conference rooms and function centres. Their 10G Multi-Gigabit port means the uplink is no longer the bottleneck.

Powering them: check your PoE switch first

Each access point runs from one Ethernet cable, but the PoE standard decides how much of the radio you get:

  • WBE710 and WBE718: full performance on 802.3at PoE+ (25W). On 802.3af, Netgear says throughput drops by 50% on 2.4GHz and 25% on 5GHz, and 6GHz is off.
  • WBE750 and WBE758: full performance on 802.3bt PoE++ (39W). On 802.3at, throughput drops by 50% on 2.4GHz and 25% on 5GHz and 6GHz. 802.3af is not supported.
  • WAX620: full performance on 802.3at PoE+ (25.5W); on 802.3af Netgear quotes about 60% of full throughput.

Matching Netgear switches we list: the GS308EP-100AUS (8 Gigabit PoE+ ports, 62W budget) for two WBE710s in a small office; the MS108EUP-100AUS (8 x 2.5G, four Ultra60 PoE++ ports) to give a WBE710 its full 2.5G link; the MS510TXUP-100AJS (four 10G PoE++ ports, 295W budget) for WBE750 and WBE758; and the MSM4332-100AJS (24 x 2.5G and 4 x 10G Ultra90 PoE++) for larger sites. Our PoE switch guide explains PoE budgets in detail.

Insight, Engage and security

All five access points are managed through Netgear Insight from the Insight app or cloud portal, with no controller hardware. The difference is the included term: 4 years with the WBE718 and WBE758, 1 year with the WBE710, WBE750 and WAX620. After that, an Insight licence keeps cloud management going; our Netgear Insight licence guide explains the NPR packs.

The WBE718 can also be configured with NETGEAR Engage, the controller application for Netgear AV switches, Pro Routers and access points, which makes it the pick for AV integrators building on M4250 AV Line switches.

Every model supports 8 SSIDs with VLANs, WPA3 and WPA3-Enterprise with 802.1x RADIUS, and a guest network with captive portal, so staff, guest and IoT traffic stay separate: useful for a clinic or accounting practice that keeps client records off the guest network. Instant WiFi Mesh can also form a wireless backhaul to another Insight access point where you cannot run a cable.

5G mobile hotspot: Netgear Nighthawk M7 (MH7150)

The Nighthawk M7 MH7150 combines a 5G Sub6 and 4G LTE modem with a Wi-Fi 7 (BE3600) access point in a phone-sized body. Netgear quotes cellular speeds of up to 4Gbps, Wi-Fi up to 3.6Gbps, up to 32 connected devices, up to 90 m² of coverage and up to 10 hours from its 3850mAh battery. It takes a physical SIM, the NETGEAR eSIM or a third-party eSIM, and Netgear says its eSIM unlocks 5G/4G data in 140+ countries for overseas trips.

For a builder's site office, a mobile sales team or a pop-up shop at a Melbourne market, it is internet that moves with you. Wired, it shares up to 2Gbps over USB-C to Ethernet, and Netgear's desktop cradle (not in the MH7150 box) adds 2 Ethernet ports and fixed-to-cellular failover. Check the 5G and 4G band list on the product page against your mobile plan before you buy.

4G backup internet: Netgear LM1200 and the 6000451 antenna

The LM1200-100AUS is a Nighthawk 4G LTE Cat 4 modem: put in an active Nano SIM and it delivers up to 150Mbps down and 50Mbps up through two Gigabit Ethernet ports. Connect it to a router such as the PR60X-100AUS (dual WAN with failover) or use the LM1200's own modem/router mode for 4G WAN failover when the NBN drops out. It has no Wi-Fi of its own, so it feeds an existing router or mesh system.

Where the mobile signal is weak, such as a farm office or a metal-roofed workshop, the Netgear 6000451 MIMO antenna adds up to 2.5 dB gain across 600 to 960 MHz and 1710 to 5925 MHz. It has two SMA connectors, two TS-9 converters for ports like the LM1200's, and a 100cm cable. For links between buildings, read our Wi-Fi between buildings guide.

What about the home or home office?

For a large home, Netgear's Orbi 970 Series RBE973S quad-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh (router plus 2 satellites) covers up to 660 m² and has a 10 Gig internet port. See our best mesh Wi-Fi guide.
