Netgear's AGM modules are 1G SFP: the AGM731F (1000BASE-SX, multimode, up to 1,000m on OM4), AGM732F (1000BASE-LX, single mode, up to 10km) and AGM734 (1000BASE-T copper RJ45, up to 100m). The AXM modules are 10G SFP+: AXM761 (10GBASE-SR, multimode, up to 550m on OM4), AXM763 (10GBASE-LRM for older OM1/OM2 fibre), AXM764 (LR Lite, single mode, 2km) and AXM762 (10GBASE-LR, single mode, 10km). The AXC761 (1m) and AXC763 (3m) are passive SFP+ direct attach cables for links inside a rack. Gigabit SFP ports take AGM modules; SFP+ ports take AXM and AXC, and on M4250 and M4350 switches they take AGM too.
Quick pick: Gigabit uplink in a building → AGM731F; Gigabit between buildings → AGM732F; 10G between floors on OM3 or OM4 → AXM761; 10G single mode across a campus up to 2km → AXM764; switch to switch or switch to NAS in the same rack → AXC763 DAC. ARC IP Networks is an authorised Netgear reseller and supplies genuine Netgear from Australian stock with a GST tax invoice.

SFP, SFP+, SFP28 and QSFP28: what the port names mean
- SFP ports run Gigabit (1000BASE-X). Netgear Smart switches such as the GS110TP, GS724TP and GS728TPP, the Easy Smart GS316EPP, and 1G M4250 models such as the GSM4230P have SFP ports. Use AGM modules here.
- SFP+ ports run 10G and, on Netgear's managed switches, also take Gigabit modules. The M4250 and M4350 datasheets say the AGM731F, AGM732F and AGM734 fit their SFP+ interfaces.
- SFP28 ports (25G) on M4350 "V" models such as the MSM4332 also accept the 10G AXM and AXC range and the 1G AGM range, per Netgear's M4350 datasheet.
- QSFP28 ports (100G) on M4350 "C" models such as the XSM4344FC need 100G optics, which are not covered in this guide.
One M4350 catch: each block of four 25G ports runs at a single speed, all 1G, all 10G or all 25G. Netgear notes that because 25G takes precedence, inserting one 25G module takes down the 1G or 10G modules in the same block, so keep mixed speeds in separate blocks.
Multimode or single mode fibre?
Look at the fibre already in the riser or between buildings before you choose a module. Multimode (OM1 to OM4, usually 50/125µm or 62.5/125µm) is common inside office buildings, schools and hospitals. Single mode (9/125µm) is used for longer runs, such as between buildings on a campus, a farm or a mine site.
- Gigabit on multimode: AGM731F, up to 275m on OM1, 550m on OM3 and 1,000m on OM4.
- 10G on OM3 or OM4: AXM761, up to 300m on OM3 and 550m on OM4. On older OM1 or OM2 it only reaches 33m.
- 10G on older OM1 or OM2: AXM763 (10GBASE-LRM), up to 220m, so a building with legacy fibre can move to 10G without re-cabling the backbone.
- Gigabit on single mode: AGM732F, up to 10km.
- 10G on single mode: AXM764 up to 2km, or AXM762 up to 10km. Netgear states the AXM764 interoperates with the AXM762 as long as the link does not exceed 2km, and notes that LR Lite is not yet a formal standard.
Order the same module for both ends of each link. For fibre between sheds or a granny flat at home, see our Wi-Fi between buildings guide too.
AGM734: a copper port in an SFP slot
The AGM734 turns an SFP or SFP+ slot into a Gigabit RJ45 port, up to 100m on Cat5e or Cat6. It is useful on fibre-heavy switches such as the XSM4216F or XSM4328FV when one copper device has to plug in. Two limits: it runs 1000Mbps full-duplex only, so it will not connect a 10/100 device, and on the M4250-16XF (XSM4216F) it works on ports 1 to 12 only.

DAC cables: the simple choice inside a rack
A direct attach cable has an SFP+ connector bonded to each end of a copper twin-axial cable, so it replaces two SFP+ modules and a fibre patch lead. Netgear describes DACs as a low-latency, energy-efficient and low-cost alternative to transceivers on short runs. Use the AXC761 (1m) between switches stacked in one rack, and the AXC763 (3m) to reach a server, NAS or the next rack. Netgear also makes active copper DACs at 5m, 7m and 10m and fibre DACs at 15m and 20m; beyond that, use a pair of AXM modules and fibre.

Netgear lists the AGM734 for SFP+ ports on the M4300 and for SFP+ and SFP28 ports on the M4350. Check the datasheet of any switch not listed here before ordering.
Genuine Netgear optics and warranty
Netgear's M4250 and M4350 datasheets list a 5-year warranty for these SFP optics and DAC cables, and the AU product pages for the AXM modules, AGM732F, AGM734 and both DACs state a NETGEAR limited 5-year hardware warranty. Netgear does not state compatibility with non-Netgear switches for these modules, so we only recommend them for Netgear switches. Order matching pairs for each link, and a spare for critical uplinks; the AXM761P10 and AXM762P10 10-packs suit fit-outs with many identical links.

Common questions
Straight answers from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.
SFP ports and modules run Gigabit Ethernet; SFP+ runs 10 Gigabit. Netgear's Gigabit SFP modules start with AGM (AGM731F, AGM732F, AGM734) and its 10G SFP+ modules start with AXM, with AXC for SFP+ direct attach cables.
On Netgear M4250, M4300 and M4350 switches, yes: their datasheets list the AGM731F, AGM732F and AGM734 for SFP+ interfaces. On the M4250-16XF (XSM4216F), 1G modules work on ports 1 to 12 only.
The AXM761 (10GBASE-SR) for OM3 or OM4, up to 300m and 550m. For older OM1 or OM2 fibre choose the AXM763 (10GBASE-LRM), which reaches up to 220m.
Both are 10G single mode SFP+ modules at 1310nm. The AXM762 is 10GBASE-LR with up to 10km reach; the AXM764 is LR Lite with up to 2km. Netgear states they interoperate on links up to 2km.
A direct attach cable has SFP+ connectors fixed to both ends of a cable, replacing two transceivers and a patch lead. The Netgear AXC761 (1m) and AXC763 (3m) are passive copper DACs for 10G links within a rack.
No. Netgear states the AGM734 supports 1000Mbps full-duplex mode only, over Cat5e or Cat6 up to 100m.
Their SFP ports are Gigabit, and Netgear lists the AGM731F, AGM732F and AGM734 as accessories for them.
Netgear's M4250 and M4350 datasheets list a 5-year warranty for its SFP optics and DACs, and the AU product pages for the AXM modules and DACs state a NETGEAR limited 5-year hardware warranty.
