Yealink T46U vs T43U: Mid-Range Office Phones Compared for Australian Businesses

Colour or greyscale, 16 or 12 lines, and why the wired T4U phones are often the smarter buy for an office floor with network points everywhere.

The Yealink T46U and T43U are the wired office phones in Yealink's T4U range. The T46U has a 4.3" colour screen and 16 lines; the T43U has a 3.7" greyscale screen and 12 lines. Both have dual Gigabit ports, dual USB ports and support the EXP43 expansion module. Pick the T46U for managers and reception, the T43U for everyone else on a wired network.

Why choose the T4U range over the T5W range

The T4U phones drop built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth in exchange for a lower price and a second USB port. On an office floor where every desk has a network point, built-in wireless is rarely used, so the T43U and T46U give you the same screen sizes as the T53W and T54W for less. If a particular desk later needs wireless, a Yealink USB dongle adds Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to either phone.

The two USB ports

Two ports mean a desk can run a USB headset and a Wi-Fi dongle at the same time, or a Bluetooth dongle and a USB stick for call recording. The T5W phones have one port.

Reception and the EXP43

The Yealink EXP43 is a 4.3" colour expansion module with 60 programmable keys over three pages. On a T46U it gives a receptionist a busy-lamp key for every extension and one-touch transfer. The T43U supports it too, but the T46U's colour main screen matches the module and is easier to read in a busy front office.

Which to buy

  • Reception, managers, anyone who watches other extensions: T46U, with an EXP43 for reception.
  • General staff on a wired desk: T43U.
  • Desks without a cable, or users who want Bluetooth headsets without a dongle: the T54W instead.

Common questions

Straight answers from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

The T46U has a 4.3-inch colour screen and 16 lines; the T43U has a 3.7-inch greyscale screen and 12 lines. Ports, audio, PoE and EXP43 expansion support are the same on both.

Not built in. The T46U and T43U add Wi-Fi or Bluetooth with a Yealink USB dongle in one of their two USB ports. For built-in wireless, choose the T54W or T53W.

The Yealink EXP43 colour expansion module, with 60 programmable keys across three pages. It also fits the T43U and T48U.

Yes. With an EXP43 module it gives a busy-lamp key for every extension, one-touch transfer and a colour screen for the directory, which is what a front desk needs.

Yes. Both are powered over Ethernet (IEEE 802.3af). A Yealink power adapter is only needed on switches without PoE.

Buy the T46U for a wired desk: it costs less and has two USB ports. Buy the T54W if the desk has no network cable or the user wants to pair a Bluetooth headset without a dongle.
