QNAP rackmount NAS come in 1U (4 bays, or 4 + 5 SSD bays), 2U (8 or 12 bays), 3U (16 bays) and 4U (24 bays). Short-depth models (TS-435XEU-4G, TS-464EU-8G, TS-H765EU-8G, TS-864EU-RP-8G, TS-873AEU-4G) are 292 to 297.4 mm deep for shallow comms cabinets; full-depth models (TS-464U-8G, TS-1264U-RP-8G, TS-1273AU-RP-8G, TS-H1277AXU-RP-R5-16G, TS-H1677AXU-RP-R7-32G) suit server racks. Models ending in -RP have two power supplies. The TS-h models ship with QuTS hero (ZFS) and a 5-year warranty.
Quick pick: small office cabinet → TS-435XEU-4G (10GbE built in); 4 bays with dual power → TS-464U-RP-8G; 12 bays → TS-1273AU-RP-8G; ZFS for business data → TS-H1277AXU-RP-R5-16G. ARC IP Networks is an authorised QNAP reseller and supplies genuine QNAP from Australian stock with a GST tax invoice.

Sources: QNAP hardware specification tables for each exact variant and the QNAP product pages that name a rail kit. "Ask us": QNAP does not name the rail kit in the sources we used, so we confirm it with the order.
1U, 2U, 3U or 4U?
QNAP's 1U models are about 43 to 44 mm tall, and the height you choose mostly decides how many drives fit:
- 1U: four 3.5-inch bays. The TS-H987XU-RP-E2334-16G adds five 2.5-inch U.2 NVMe/SATA SSD bays and the TS-H765EU-8G three E1.S slots, so you get a fast SSD tier without giving up a hard drive bay.
- 2U: eight bays (TS-864EU-RP-8G, TS-873AEU-RP-4G) or twelve (TS-1264U-RP-8G, TS-1273AU-RP-8G, TS-H1277AXU-RP-R5-16G). For most Australian SMBs, 2U is the sweet spot.
- 3U: sixteen bays (TS-1673AU-RP-16G, TS-H1677AXU-RP-R7-32G).
- 4U: twenty-four bays in the TS-H2477AXU-RP-R7-32G.
Leave empty bays for growth; our how much NAS storage guide helps size it.
Short depth: will it fit your comms cabinet?
Many Australian offices, shops and clinics have a wall-mounted comms cabinet rather than a full server rack, and a standard rackmount NAS simply will not fit. QNAP's short-depth "eU" models solve that: the TS-435XEU-4G, TS-464EU-8G and TS-H765EU-8G are about 292 mm deep in 1U, and the TS-864EU-RP-8G and TS-873AEU-4G 297.4 mm in 2U. The TS-1264U-RP-8G, TS-1273AU-RP-8G and TS-1673AU-RP-16G sit in between at 370.7 to 370.9 mm. The TS-464U-8G (479 mm) and the TS-h 2U and 3U models (550 mm) need a proper server rack.
Measure the distance between the front and rear mounting posts, not the cabinet's advertised depth. QNAP makes the same point for its rail kits, and leave room behind for power and network cables.
Redundant power (-RP) or single PSU?
An -RP model has two power supplies, so a failed PSU does not take the NAS down. We sell several pairs:
| Single PSU | Redundant PSU | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| TS-464U-8G: 250W x 1 | TS-464U-RP-8G: 250W x 2 | Same 1U chassis, CPU, RAM and ports |
| TS-873AEU-4G: 250W x 1 | TS-873AEU-RP-4G: 300W x 2 (minimum) | Same 2U short-depth chassis, CPU, RAM and ports |
| TS-435XEU-4G: 100W x 1 | Not available | Short depth 1U |
| TS-H765EU-8G: 150W x 1 | Not available | Short depth 1U, QuTS hero |
PSU ratings from QNAP's specification tables.
The 12-bay and larger rackmount models we list all have dual PSUs. Our suggestion: choose -RP for anything a business depends on, and plug each supply into a different UPS or circuit so one fault cannot take out both. Our NAS UPS guide covers the UPS side.
Rail kits: which one do you need?
Rail kits are sold separately. The ones we stock, and what QNAP says about them:
- RAIL-S01: short-depth rail kit for 1U, 2U and 3U models, for rack-post depths of 126 to 415 mm. QNAP names it for the TS-435XEU-4G, TS-873AEU-4G, TS-873AEU-RP-4G and TS-1673AU-RP-16G.
- RAIL-B02: standard rail kit for 1U and 2U NAS, for front-to-rear post distances of 443 to 815 mm, in 9.5 mm square-hole or 7.1 mm round-hole racks. QNAP names it for the TS-1273AU-RP-8G. QNAP notes that at its shortest setting the rear of the rail sticks out past the rear post, so allow clearance behind the rack.
- RAIL-A03-57: rail kit for 2U and 3U models, for post depths of 579.1 to 873.5 mm; QNAP lists it for the TS-h2490FU all-flash NAS.
For the other models in this guide, QNAP's pages we used do not name a rail kit, so we confirm the right one with your order rather than guess.

Network speed: 2.5GbE, 10GbE and PCIe
Every model here has at least two 2.5GbE ports. The TS-435XEU-4G adds two 10GbE SFP+ ports, and the TS-H1277AXU-RP-R5-16G, TS-H1677AXU-RP-R7-32G, TS-H2477AXU-RP-R7-32G and TS-H987XU-RP-E2334-16G two 10GBASE-T ports. On the others, a PCIe slot takes a 10GbE or 25GbE card; the TS-873AEU-RP-4G has a Gen3 x8 slot and the TS-h models three Gen4 slots. See our 10GbE network card guide and 10GbE switch guide.
QTS or QuTS hero?
The TS-h rackmounts ship with QuTS hero, QNAP's ZFS-based OS, and carry a 5-year warranty in QNAP's spec tables. The TS-464U-RP-8G, TS-864EU-RP-8G and TS-1264U-RP-8G come with QTS 5 and also support QuTS hero; the TS-873AEU-RP-4G and TS-1273AU-RP-8G are listed for either. QuTS hero needs at least 8GB of RAM, so the 4GB TS-873AeU models need a memory upgrade first. Our QTS vs QuTS hero guide explains the trade-offs.
Running out of bays? JBOD expansion
QNAP says the TS-464U-RP-8G, TS-864EU-RP-8G and TS-1264U-RP-8G accept QNAP expansion enclosures, managed in Storage & Snapshots Manager. The TS-h1277AXU-RP, TS-h1677AXU-RP and TS-h2477AXU-RP connect to SAS 12Gb/s, PCIe or SATA expansion units through expansion cards, up to eight 24-bay TL-R2400PES-RP PCIe JBODs for petabyte-scale storage; the TS-H987XU-RP-E2334-16G connects to SATA TL units.
- TL-R1200S-RP: 12-bay 2U SATA JBOD, supplied with its own PCIe SATA card and cables.
- TL-R1200PES-RP: 12-bay 2U PCIe JBOD; needs a QXP-3X8PES or QXP-3X4PES card in the NAS, and cascades to 144 drives.
- TL-R1200C-RP: 12-bay 2U USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C JBOD.
Check QNAP's compatibility list for your NAS before ordering, or ask us. Our TR-004 vs TL JBOD guide compares the options.

Common questions
Straight answers from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.
Models ending in -RP have two power supplies instead of one. For example, the TS-464U-8G has one 250W PSU and the TS-464U-RP-8G has two.
A rackmount NAS shallow enough for a comms cabinet. QNAP's TS-435XeU, TS-464eU and TS-h765eU are about 292 mm deep in 1U, and the TS-864eU-RP and TS-873AeU 297.4 mm in 2U.
QNAP names RAIL-S01 (126 to 415 mm rack-post depth) for short-depth models such as the TS-435XeU and TS-873AeU, and RAIL-B02 (443 to 815 mm) for models such as the TS-1273AU-RP. For other models we confirm the kit with your order.
A 1U NAS holds four 3.5-inch drives; a 2U NAS holds eight or twelve. Choose 2U if you expect to grow, or a 1U model when rack space is tight.
Yes, with a QNAP expansion unit. The TS-h1277AXU-RP, TS-h1677AXU-RP and TS-h2477AXU-RP connect up to eight TL-R2400PES-RP PCIe JBODs, and models such as the TS-464U-RP accept QNAP expansion enclosures.
The TS-h models ship with QuTS hero. The TS-464U, TS-864eU-RP and TS-1264U-RP ship with QTS 5 and also support QuTS hero, and the TS-873AeU and TS-1273AU-RP are listed for either.
QNAP's specification tables list 3 years for models such as the TS-435XeU, TS-464U-RP and TS-1273AU-RP, and 5 years for the TS-h1277AXU-RP, TS-h1677AXU-RP, TS-h2477AXU-RP and TS-h987XU-RP.
