Solar & 4G Security Cameras: No Power, No Wi-Fi Needed

A solar 4G security camera charges itself from the sun and sends live video to your phone over the mobile network, so it can watch a farm gate, building site or holiday home where there is no mains power and no internet. Footage records to a card in the camera, with no monthly subscription.

What is a solar 4G security camera, and how does it work?

It is a security camera that does not need anything from the site it watches. Instead of mains power and a network cable, it uses:

  • A solar panel that charges a battery during the day
  • A battery that runs the camera overnight and through cloudy spells
  • A 4G SIM that sends live video, playback and alerts to the app on your phone
  • A microSD card that stores the recordings in the camera, so footage is kept even when mobile coverage drops

Mount it on a pole, post or wall, insert a SIM and a card, scan the QR code in the app, and it is running. No trenching, no electrician and no recorder.

More solar and 4G options

Not every site needs an all-in-one camera. If there is power but no internet, or Wi-Fi but no power, one of these may suit better.

How to choose a solar 4G security camera

Six things to check so the camera keeps running through winter and stays connected at your site.

Check 4G coverage on the right bands

Jovision 4G cameras use LTE bands 1, 3, 5 and 8. They do not support band 28 (700 MHz). Check your carrier covers the site on those bands before you buy, or ask us to help.

Size the solar for winter

Look at panel wattage, battery capacity and low-power modes, not just the headline. The JVS-N47-AOR pairs a 12W panel with a 10,400mAh battery and runs over 2 weeks without sun in AOV mode.

Choose local recording

A camera that records to its own microSD card keeps footage when coverage drops and avoids a monthly cloud subscription.

Use AI detection

Human and vehicle detection ignores wind, shadows and animals, so you get fewer false alerts and the battery lasts longer.

Pan-tilt or fixed

A 360° pan-tilt camera can cover a whole yard from one pole. A fixed camera suits a single gate or doorway.

Check the weather rating

Look for IP66 or better, and check the operating temperature range against your site. The JVS-N47-AOR is rated −5°C to 45°C.

Where solar 4G cameras work best

Farm security cameras

Watch gates, sheds, fuel and water tanks and machinery kilometres from the house, with no cable runs across paddocks.

Read the farm camera guide

Construction site cameras

Holiday homes and vacant land

Keep an eye on weekenders, blocks and caravans you rarely visit.

Gates and driveways

Get an alert when a person or vehicle crosses the line at a remote entry.

Remote assets

Bores, pumps, solar farms and huts far from power and internet.

Yards and depots

Cover large open areas from one pole with 360° pan and tilt.

Why a solar 4G camera costs less to own

  • No trenching or electrician. Running power and data cable to a far gate or shed often costs more than the camera.
  • No monthly subscription. Recordings stay on the camera's microSD card. Your only running cost is the SIM data plan.
  • Nothing to run. The sun charges it, so it adds nothing to your power bill.
  • Pay for the features, not the badge. We import Jovision direct, so you get AI detection, colour night vision and 360° pan-tilt without paying a premium-brand price.

Solar and 4G security camera FAQ

Straight answers on winter, SIM cards, subscriptions and installation. Last reviewed October 2026 by ARC IP Networks.

A camera that powers itself from a solar panel and battery, and connects over a 4G mobile SIM instead of Wi-Fi or the NBN. It needs no mains power and no internet connection on site, so it suits farms, building sites and remote properties.

Yes. The panel keeps charging on shorter, overcast days, and low-power modes stretch the battery. The Jovision JVS-N47-AOR runs for over 2 weeks with no sun in its low-power AOV mode. Face the panel north with a clear view of the sky.

Not for a 4G model. It sends live video and alerts over the mobile network, so you only need 4G coverage at the site. Solar Wi-Fi models such as the JVS-N97-SW do need your Wi-Fi to reach the camera.

Jovision 4G cameras support LTE bands 1, 3, 5 and 8 (2100, 1800, 850 and 900 MHz). They do not support band 28 (700 MHz). Check your carrier has coverage on those bands at the site, or ask us and we will help you check before you buy.

No camera subscription. Footage records to a microSD card in the camera. The only ongoing cost is the data plan on the SIM you choose.

The JVS-N47-AOR records 24/7 at a low frame rate while nothing is happening and switches to full frame rate when it detects a person or vehicle, which saves battery and storage.

Mount it high on a wall or pole, out of easy reach, with the supplied bracket. The JVS-N47-AOR also sounds a siren, flashes its light and alerts your phone when it detects a person.

Yes. The JVS-N47-AOR is set up in our Blackburn, VIC showroom, where you can pan it from the app, trigger the AI detection and see the colour night vision.
