Professional Overview

The AI Theta architecture separates the camera from the brain. Instead of one sealed camera doing everything, a small remote lens sits where the view is and a hub does the processing somewhere convenient — inside a ceiling, in a cabinet, behind a wall. This is that hub, and it is the piece every Theta deployment needs.

The practical gain is placement. A Theta lens is far smaller than a conventional camera body, so it goes where a camera would be intrusive or simply would not fit — a retail ceiling, a discreet entry, a display case. The hub carries the processor, the network connection and the power, and connects to the lens over a single cable, one of which is included.

Processing is a quad-core Arm Cortex-A53 running advanced AI: person detection and licence plate reading, with Ubiquiti noting that plate recognition specifically requires the Long-Distance or Wide-Angle lens rather than any Theta lens. Image controls are the standard Protect set — colour, brightness, sharpness, contrast, white balance, exposure and noise reduction. A 0.96" colour display on the hub itself shows device status and configuration without a laptop.

Ports are one GbE RJ45, one Theta lens port and one Theta audio port, the last for the optional AI Theta Audio module which adds two-way audio. Power is PoE at 37–57V DC drawing up to 12.5W, and the hub supplies 5V DC at 1A per port to what it drives. The body is aluminium alloy, 140 x 70 x 38 mm and 330 g, with a 35 g aluminium wall or ceiling mount included. Operating range is -20 to 40°C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity, certified FCC, IC and CE. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the AI Theta Hub do?

It is the processing and connectivity unit for an AI Theta deployment. The lens captures the view; the hub runs the AI, handles the network connection and supplies power.

Do I need a lens as well?

Yes. The hub connects to an AI Theta lens, sold separately, and one lens cable is included. It supports both Standard and Professional Theta lenses.

Which lenses support licence plate recognition?

Ubiquiti specifies plate recognition with the Long-Distance and Wide-Angle lenses.

How many devices can one hub drive?

It has one video port for a lens and one audio port for the optional AI Theta Audio module.

How is it powered?

PoE at 37–57V DC, drawing a maximum of 12.5W. It supplies 5V DC at 1A per port to connected devices.

Does it support two-way audio?

Through the optional AI Theta Audio module, which connects to the dedicated Theta audio port.

What is the display for?

A 0.96" colour display on the hub shows device status and configuration information locally.

What are its operating conditions?

-20 to 40°C at 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity. Certifications are FCC, IC and CE.
