Professional Overview

The UniFi Access Reader G2 Pro is the flagship reader in Ubiquiti's second-generation door access line, and the UA-G2-Pro is its white finish. Where the standard UA-G2 is a card-and-app reader, the Pro adds a 120 mm portrait capacitive touchscreen and a 12 MP camera, which changes what the door can do: a visitor without credentials can press to call, and the person answering sees them and speaks to them over the built-in two-way intercom before releasing the door. Credential holders unlock by NFC card, by PIN on the touchscreen, from the UniFi Identity mobile app, or by face. A proximity sensor wakes the display as someone approaches.

The camera runs at up to 30 FPS with a 12 MP (3072 × 4096) sensor and streams video at 2 MP (1200 × 1600) in a 3:4 portrait aspect that suits a doorway. Its field of view is 98.6° horizontal, 125.7° vertical and 157.8° diagonal — the tall vertical figure is the point, because it lets one unit mounted at ADA-compliant height still frame a face, and equally a child or a wheelchair user. Because the reader is part of the UniFi Application Suite, that video surfaces in both Access and Protect, so door events and camera footage sit in the same timeline rather than in two separate systems.

Installation is a single Cat 5e or better run: one GbE RJ45 port carries both data and PoE, with a maximum draw of 6 W at 48V DC. Ubiquiti specifies a minimum 26 AWG patch cord and 24 AWG horizontal or riser cable between the PSE and the device. The reader mounts to a wall or a gang box with the included hardware, with an optional angle mount and junction box available. The enclosure is polycarbonate and glass on an aluminium alloy mount, rated IP55 for outdoor exposure. The device operates from -30 to 45°C, although the display is specified for the narrower -10 to 45°C range, and 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity. ESD protection is ±15 kV air and ±8 kV contact.

For specifiers, the compliance position matters as much as the feature list: the UA-G2-Pro carries UL 294 access control certification at Level I across destructive attack, line security, endurance and standby power, plus CAN/ULC-60839-11-1 Grade I, CE, FCC, IC and SRRC. It requires a UniFi Access Hub to operate and is managed from the UniFi Access application; there is no per-door subscription. The identical hardware in black is UA-G2-Pro-Black. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the UA-G2-Pro and the UA-G2-Pro-Black?

Nothing except the finish. UA-G2-Pro is the white model and UA-G2-Pro-Black is the black model. Both share the same 12 MP camera, 120 mm touchscreen, two-way intercom, IP55 rating and UL 294 Level I certification, and Ubiquiti documents them under a single specification sheet (UA-G2-Pro/UA-G2-Pro-Black, V02).

What is the difference between the UA-G2 and the UA-G2-Pro?

The UA-G2 is a reader only. The UA-G2-Pro adds a 120 mm portrait touchscreen, a 12 MP camera and a two-way intercom, so it can act as a video doorbell and support PIN and face unlock in addition to NFC card and app unlock.

How is the UA-G2-Pro powered?

Over PoE through its single GbE RJ45 port. Maximum power consumption is 6 W at 48V DC, so no separate power supply or mains cabling is needed at the door.

Does the UA-G2-Pro need a UniFi Access Hub?

Yes. The reader connects to a UniFi Access Hub, which drives the lock hardware and holds the door logic. The reader is managed through the UniFi Access application.

Can the UA-G2-Pro be installed outdoors?

Yes. It is rated IP55 and specified for indoor and outdoor use. The device operates from -30 to 45°C; the display is rated for -10 to 45°C, so a fully shaded or sheltered position is preferable in extreme heat or cold.

What unlock methods does the UA-G2-Pro support?

NFC card, PIN entered on the touchscreen, the UniFi Identity mobile app, and face unlock. It also supports Bluetooth Low Energy 4.2. NFC operates at 13.56 MHz with a read range under 30 mm.

Which NFC card types work with the UA-G2-Pro?

ISO/IEC 14443A, 14443B, 15693 and 18092 (Ecma 340), MIFARE Classic, MIFARE DESFire, Sony FeliCa (ID only), and NFC Forum tags T1T, T2T, T3T, T4T and T5T.

What cabling does the UA-G2-Pro require?

Cat 5e is the minimum category Ubiquiti recommends, and the category used should match the transmission speed required on site. The minimum conductor gauge is 26 AWG for patch cords and 24 AWG for horizontal or riser cable between the power source and the device.

Is the UA-G2-Pro UL 294 certified?

Yes — UL 294 at Level I for destructive attack, line security, endurance and standby power, and CAN/ULC-60839-11-1 Grade I. It also carries CE, FCC, IC and SRRC marks.

How is the UA-G2-Pro mounted?

To a wall or a gang box using the included mount, which is aluminium alloy. An angle mount and junction box are available as optional accessories. The unit is 160 x 40.4 x 40.55 mm and weighs 136 g.
