Professional Overview

The Ubiquiti UniFi U7 Pro Max is a flagship ceiling-mounted WiFi 7 access point engineered for high-density, large-scale deployments where uncompromising airtime efficiency is required. With eight spatial streams distributed across 6 GHz, 5 GHz, and 2.4 GHz radios, support for 320 MHz channel bandwidth, and a 160 m² coverage footprint rated for 500+ concurrent clients, it is purpose-built for offices, hotels, hospitals, campuses, and retail venues that demand multi-gigabit wireless throughput across hundreds of devices.

Aggregate PHY rates reach 5.8 Gbps on 6 GHz (BW320, 2x2 MU-MIMO), 8.6 Gbps on 5 GHz (BW240, 4x4 MU-MIMO), and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (BW40, 2x2 MU-MIMO). The single 1/2.5 GbE RJ45 uplink delivers 2.5 Gbps backhaul to a UniFi switch, while a maximum draw of 25 W keeps the unit comfortably within the PoE+ (802.3at) budget — no power injector required when paired with any UniFi PoE+ switch.

A defining feature of the U7 Pro Max is its dedicated spectral scanning engine, which provides real-time analysis of the RF environment for enhanced channel selection and interference mitigation (UniFi Network 8.2.93+). Multi-Link Operation (MLO) is on the roadmap and will be enabled via software update, allowing simultaneous aggregation across the 6 GHz and 5 GHz radios for ultra-low-latency clients. Up to 8 BSSIDs per radio support segmented multi-SSID rollouts, and DL/UL MU-MIMO on every band keeps mixed-client networks responsive.

Construction is polycarbonate with an aluminium internal frame and a stainless-steel (SUS304) and galvanised-steel (SGCC) Pro Mount included in the box for clean ceiling or wall installs. Operating range is -30 to 50° C across 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity, and the unit ships with CE, FCC, IC, and Anatel certifications. Centrally managed through any UniFi Network controller (Cloud Key, Dream Machine, or self-hosted), the U7 Pro Max is available as Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Ubiquiti U7-Pro-Max: WiFi 7 access point

The Access Point U7 Pro Max is a UniFi WiFi 7 access point with 8 spatial streams, a rated coverage area of 160 m² (1,750 ft²) and 500+ concurrent clients.

On the wired side the uplink is 2.5 GbE, it is powered by PoE+, and draws at most 25W.

This is an indoor access point. It carries no ingress rating, so for a veranda, a carport, a warehouse dock or anywhere else exposed to weather, use a unit that is rated for it.

In Australia the ACMA class licence opens 5925–6425 MHz to WiFi — the lower 500 MHz of the 6 GHz band, not the full 5925–7125 MHz range the United States allows. There are still more clean channels there than anywhere in 5 GHz, but plan channel width accordingly: a 320 MHz channel consumes most of what is available here.

These are modulation-coding-scheme ceilings measured at the radio, not speeds a client will see. Real throughput depends on the client's own radio, the channel width you can actually use, distance and how much of the band your neighbours are already occupying. Our UniFi access point comparison puts the range side by side.

Uplink and power

Networking interface(1) 1/2.5 GbE RJ45 port
Power methodPoE+
Max. power consumption25W

ManagementEthernet

Power comes down the Ethernet run as PoE+, drawing up to 25W. On a switch that shares one PoE budget across every port, add up the draw of every AP before you commit — the UniFi switch range lists the total availability for each model.

The 2.5 GbE uplink is there for a reason: a WiFi 7 radio can move more than a gigabit, and on a 1 GbE port the switch becomes the bottleneck before the radio does. It will negotiate down to 1 GbE and work, but you lose the headroom you paid for.

Who the U7-Pro-Max suits

  • Dense environments where the extra spatial streams are actually used
  • Sites cabled for multi-gigabit uplinks with PoE+ available
  • Offices, venues and campuses standardising on the U7 Pro family
  • Replacing WiFi 6 APs where client counts have outgrown them

Management and requirements

UniFi Network versionVersion 8.2.93 and later
ManagementEthernet

Like every UniFi access point, the U7-Pro-Max is adopted and managed by a UniFi controller — a Cloud Gateway or Dream Machine, a Cloud Key, or UniFi hosting. The AP does not run the controller itself, and it is not a standalone router: it provides the WiFi, while routing, firewall and VLANs live on the gateway.

It requires UniFi Network 8.2.93 and later. An older controller will not adopt it until you update.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the U7-Pro-Max?

The Access Point U7 Pro Max is a UniFi WiFi 7 access point with 8 spatial streams and a rated coverage area of 160 m² (1,750 ft²).

How many devices can the U7-Pro-Max handle?

Ubiquiti rates it at 500+ concurrent clients. That is a ceiling under favourable conditions, not a design target — for dense environments size on the number of devices actually active at once and add APs rather than pushing one to its limit.

What area does the U7-Pro-Max cover?

160 m² (1,750 ft²) is the published figure. Coverage in a real building depends on what the signal has to pass through: plasterboard costs little, double brick, foil-backed insulation and concrete cost a great deal.

How is the U7-Pro-Max powered?

PoE+ over the Ethernet run, drawing up to 25W, within a supported voltage range of 44–57V DC.

What uplink speed does the U7-Pro-Max have?

2.5 GbE. It will negotiate down to 1 GbE, but on a multi-gigabit radio that makes the switch port the bottleneck.

Does the U7-Pro-Max support 6 GHz in Australia?

Yes, within the Australian allocation. The ACMA class licence opens 5925 to 6425 MHz to WiFi — the lower 500 MHz of the band, where the United States allows 5925 to 7125 MHz. You get the clean spectrum, with fewer very wide channels to put in it than the US figures imply.

Can the U7-Pro-Max be used outdoors?

No. It carries no ingress rating and is an indoor access point. For covered outdoor areas choose a weatherproof model.

How is the U7-Pro-Max mounted?

Ceiling, Wall (Pro Mount Included).

Does the U7-Pro-Max need a UniFi controller?

Yes. UniFi access points are adopted and managed by a controller — a Cloud Gateway, Dream Machine, Cloud Key or UniFi hosting. The AP supplies the WiFi; routing, firewall and VLANs live on the gateway.

What UniFi Network version does it require?

UniFi Network 8.2.93 and later.

Is the U7-Pro-Max available in Australia?

Yes. ARC IP Networks is an authorised Ubiquiti reseller holding Australian stock with full manufacturer warranty and fast domestic shipping.
