A router (hEX, RB5009, CCR) handles NAT, firewalling and the connection to your internet service. A switch (CRS, CSS) connects devices together on the local network. Some CRS switches can do light routing as well, but a dedicated router is the right tool for internet-facing traffic.
An RB5009 comfortably routes multi-gigabit traffic for a small business. Step up to a CCR once you are terminating full BGP tables, running heavy IPsec, or need more CPU headroom than a single-core or light multi-core router provides.
