Case Study: PowerShield Centurion UPS Powers The Bend Motorsport Park

How Centurion Tower 10kVA UPSs in master/slave redundancy and Centurion RT 3000VA rack UPSs protect race data at The Bend, and how to build the same design.

Short answer: The Bend Motorsport Park in South Australia protects the main server room behind its race statistics and data collection with PowerShield Centurion Tower 10kVA UPSs in a master/slave configuration for redundancy, and protects the network hubs around the park with rack-mounted Centurion RT 3000VA UPSs. PowerShield’s software keeps the IT manager continually informed of system status.

Outcome: continuous power for the park’s IT through blackouts, with room for future expansion. You can build the same edge layer with the Centurion RT 3000VA (PSCERT3000); the 10kVA tower is available on project quote. ARC IP Networks is a trusted PowerShield supplier in Australia: genuine stock at competitive prices, with the full PowerShield Australian warranty, Australia-wide delivery and trade pricing.

The challenge: precision backup for a world-class circuit

PowerShield describes The Bend Motorsport Park as one of the most significant developments in Australian motorsport history and a state-of-the-art, world-class facility. It was developed and primarily funded by the Peregrine Corporation, South Australia’s largest private company. Construction started in early 2016 and the main circuit was completed in April 2018, in time for the first scheduled events.

A highly equipped main server room supports the IT infrastructure throughout the park, including the systems that provide race statistics and data collection for events. The UPS solution had to:

  • meet the demands of the park and keep power continuous during any blackout;
  • cater for future expansion as required;
  • be delivered, installed and commissioned on time, which the case study calls essential to the project’s success.

The solution: redundancy at the core, online UPS at the edge

PowerShield split the design into two layers:

  • Main server room: PowerShield Centurion Tower 10kVA UPSs installed in a master/slave configuration for redundant power protection.
  • Remote locations: Centurion RT 3000VA UPSs installed in racks at various points around the park to protect and secure the network hubs.

According to PowerShield, its UPS systems are designed for this type of rugged environment and have the software compatibility to talk to the IT manager, keeping him continually informed of the status of the system.

Why this two-layer Centurion design works

Centurion Tower 10kVA in the server room

PowerShield’s Centurion 10kVA is a true online double conversion tower rated 10000VA / 10000W (output power factor 1.0), with input power factor correction, generator compatibility and USB, RS-232, SNMP and AS400 communication options. PowerShield lists N+X parallel redundancy as available for the 6K and 10K models, backup time can be extended with additional battery banks, and an extendable maintenance bypass is available.

Centurion RT 3000VA at the network hubs

  • True online double conversion: the load runs from a continuously rebuilt AC supply, isolated from mains problems.
  • 3000VA / 2700W, 0.9 output power factor, in a 2U rack/tower chassis (600 × 438 × 88 mm, 26.8 kg).
  • Expandable with the PSRTBB12 extended battery module, plus hot-swappable batteries and programmable outlets.
  • Advanced ECO mode rated at up to 98% efficiency, generator compatible, with EPO.
  • Requires a 15 A wall outlet, so check each hub’s circuit.

Single-phase Centurion models carry a 2-year PowerShield warranty, extended to 3 years when registered.

What PowerShield said

“PowerShield has always excelled at providing custom solutions. It was fantastic to be a part of such an interesting, important project here in Australia.”

What this means for your site

The pattern is redundant online UPS power at the core and an online rack UPS in every edge cabinet, all reporting back to one IT team. It fits Australian sites such as:

  • Racetracks, stadiums, showgrounds and event venues with timing, scoring, ticketing or broadcast networks.
  • Campuses, hospitals and council precincts with a central server room and network cabinets spread across buildings.
  • Industrial and logistics sites where switches and controllers sit in remote rooms.
  • Any site where one IT manager needs status from many UPSs, via the PSSNMPV4 SNMP card.

Common questions

Straight answers from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed October 2026.

PowerShield Centurion Tower 10kVA UPSs in a master/slave configuration protect the main server room, and Centurion RT 3000VA UPSs protect the network hubs in racks around the park.

At The Bend, Centurion Tower 10kVA UPSs were installed in a master/slave configuration to give the main server room redundant power protection rather than relying on one UPS. PowerShield lists N+X parallel redundancy as available for its Centurion 6K and 10K tower models.

It is available on project quote. Call 1300 100 440 with your load and redundancy requirements. The Centurion 6000VA tower (PSCE6000) and Centurion RT 3000VA (PSCERT3000) are supplied from our range.

Yes. PowerShield states that the Centurion RT 3000VA requires a 15 A wall outlet, so check the circuit in each cabinet before ordering.

Fit the PowerShield PSSNMPV4 SNMP card. It lets you monitor one or multiple UPS systems and schedule shutdowns, start-ups and reboots over the network.

No. This is a PowerShield project, summarised from PowerShield’s published case study. ARC IP Networks supplies the same genuine PowerShield models.
