Professional Overview

Fail-safe means the door unlocks when power is lost. That is the correct behaviour on an egress route, where people must be able to get out during a fire or power failure — and the wrong behaviour on a secure store, where you want the door to stay locked. Choosing between fail-safe and fail-secure is the first decision on any access-controlled door, and it is usually determined by fire regulation rather than preference.

Holding force is 1,200 kg, which is substantially higher than the 8 mm strike in the same family at 227 kg, and reflects a deeper 15 mm slot engaging more of the latch. It mounts as a recess into the door frame for a single wooden or metal door.

Electrically it draws 400 mA ±10% at 12V DC ±10%, wired as lock 12V/NC on red and lock 12V/COM on black. That 400 mA figure is the one to check against cable length: Ubiquiti's own guidance for the UA Hub Door allows 25 m at 24 AWG or 66 m at 20 AWG for a 400 mA lock, so a long run needs heavier cable such as the 18 AWG DoorLockRelay spool.

A dry-contact door status output is built in, rated to a maximum of 30V DC at 0.1A, reporting open when DPS/+ and DPS/- are open and closed when they are shorted — that is what tells the Access Hub whether the door actually shut rather than merely being released. The lock body is zinc alloy with stainless steel front plates and latches, operating from -10 to 60°C and storing from -20 to 70°C, at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity. Certifications are FCC, IC and CE. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does fail-safe mean?

The door unlocks when power is removed. This is normally required on egress routes so people can exit during a fire or power failure. A fail-secure lock stays locked instead.

What is the holding force?

1,200 kg — considerably higher than the 227 kg of the 8 mm strike in the same family.

What is the difference between the 15 mm and 8 mm versions?

Lock slot depth and holding force. The 15 mm engages more of the latch for 1,200 kg of holding force at 400 mA; the 8 mm version holds 227 kg at 200 mA.

What power does it need?

12V DC ±10% at 400 mA ±10%, supplied from the UniFi Access Hub's lock output.

What cable should I run to it?

At 400 mA, Ubiquiti's guidance for the UA Hub Door allows about 25 m at 24 AWG or 66 m at 20 AWG. For longer runs use heavier cable such as the 18 AWG DoorLockRelay spool.

Does it report door status?

Yes, via a built-in dry contact rated to 30V DC at 0.1A, so the Access Hub knows whether the door actually closed.

What doors does it suit?

A single wooden or metal door, mounted as a recess into the door frame.

What are the operating conditions?

-10 to 60°C operating, -20 to 70°C storage, at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity.
