What the MikroTik KNOT platform actually does
KNOT is MikroTik's entry into IoT gateways: a RouterOS device with LoRa and Bluetooth radios built in, designed to sit at a site and collect readings from low-power sensor tags scattered around a building, farm or warehouse, then forward that data over its cellular or Ethernet backhaul. It runs full RouterOS, so it can also do ordinary routing and firewalling at the same time as its sensor-gateway job.

What LoRaWAN adds over Bluetooth alone
Bluetooth tags need to be within roughly line-of-sight range of the gateway, which is fine for one building. LoRaWAN uses a lower data rate but a much longer range, often over a kilometre in open ground, which is why the LR9-equipped KNOT gateway is the right choice for farms, rural sites or anywhere sensors are spread across a larger area than Bluetooth alone can reach. A site can run both radios at once, using Bluetooth for dense short-range tags and LoRa for the outliers.
