Standard copper Ethernet reaches 100 m. To power a camera, door reader or sensor further away with Ubiquiti gear you have four options. You can chain UACC-LRE Long-Range Ethernet Repeaters every 100 m for up to 1 km. You can run fibre plus DC power to an F-POE-G2. You can link wirelessly with a Building-to-Building Bridge (up to 500 m). Or you can use Ubiquiti's new Long-Range Switch 8 PoE, which reaches up to 800 m on a single cable with an Outdoor Long-Range Endpoint.
Quick pick: use the repeater today for a single device on a long cable run, fibre where you can trench and need Gigabit, a wireless bridge where you can't trench at all, and the Long-Range Switch for several high-power devices out to 800 m once it lands in Australia. ARC IP Networks is an authorised Ubiquiti reseller: the repeater, fibre and wireless options are available now, and the Long-Range Switch and Endpoint are coming soon.

Four ways past the 100 m limit at a glance
Each option solves the same problem in a different way. The right one depends on distance, how much power the device needs, how fast the link must be, and whether you can run cable at all.
| Option | In one line | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Long-Range Switch 8 PoE + Endpoint | Eight 90 W PoE+++ ports, up to 800 m per run on one cable (coming soon) | Several cameras, readers or sensors spread across a large site |
| UACC-LRE repeater | PoE/PoE+ repeater, chain one every 100 m for up to 1 km | A device at the end of a long cable run, available now |
| F-POE-G2 | Fibre for data plus DC cable for power to an outdoor PoE device | Long-distance Gigabit PoE runs over fibre and DC cabling |
| Building-to-Building Bridge | 60 GHz wireless link up to 500 m with 5 GHz backup | Linking buildings wirelessly instead of cabling |

Why Ethernet stops at 100 m
Ubiquiti puts it simply: standard copper Ethernet reaches 100 m. Beyond that, connecting remote cameras, access devices and IoT sensors often requires fibre and a separate electrical supply. Plenty of Australian sites need to reach further, for example a camera on the back fence of an acreage block, a boom gate at the far end of a car park, a reader on a school's sports-field gate, or a sensor on a building site's perimeter.
Each option below takes a different route past that limit. If you are still working out PoE budgets in general, start with our guide What PoE switch do I need?
Option 1: the UniFi Long-Range Switch 8 PoE (coming soon)
Ubiquiti announced long-range switching in October 2026. The Long-Range Switch 8 PoE has eight long-range PoE+++ ports, each delivering up to 90 W, from a 630 W total PoE budget. Paired with an Outdoor Long-Range Endpoint at the far end, each port reaches up to 800 m over a single Ethernet cable. Ubiquiti notes the endpoint is required for long-range performance.
- Ports: the eight long-range ports run at 100M/10M. Uplink is via one GbE RJ45 and one 1G SFP port.
- Power: an internal 660 W AC power supply, 100–240 V AC.
- The endpoint: IPX5 rated, with 3 kA / 6 kV surge protection and a -40 to 60 °C operating range. It takes PoE+++ from the switch and passes through up to PoE++ to the device.
- Management: managed through UniFi together with your network and physical security, completely licence-free.
Ubiquiti designed long-range switching for remote cameras, access devices and IoT sensors. At the time of writing ARC IP Networks cannot supply the switch or endpoint in Australia yet; contact us to register your interest.

Option 2: UACC-LRE Long-Range Ethernet Repeater (available now)
The UACC-LRE is the option you can install today. Each repeater takes PoE/PoE+ in on one GbE port and passes Ethernet and PoE out on the other. Chain them one every 100 m to reach up to 1 km. Each repeater is IPX5 rated, has 10 kA+ surge protection and runs from -40 to 80 °C.
The passthrough PoE output offers 22.5 W, so check the device's power draw against that figure. Ubiquiti notes the repeater is powered on pins 1, 2+ and 3, 6-, which some third-party switches don't support, and recommends a UniFi switch at the head end.
Option 3: fibre plus power with the F-POE-G2
Ubiquiti describes the F-POE-G2 as providing reliable long-distance Gigabit PoE runs. The F-POE-G2 takes fibre on a 1 Gbps SFP port and DC power on a terminal block, then delivers 24 V or 50 V passive PoE on a GbE port to the outdoor device. It accepts 16–57 V DC input, sits in an IPX5 enclosure with built-in gas discharge tube surge protection, and works from -40 to 60 °C. Note that its PoE port does not support 10/100 Mbps devices.
It needs both a fibre run and DC power cabling to the device.
Option 4: go wireless with a Building-to-Building Bridge
A wireless link replaces the cable altogether. The UniFi Building-to-Building Bridge is a 60 GHz point-to-point link with a 500 m maximum range and a 5 GHz backup radio, and it comes with PoE adapters. For longer or multi-point links there is Wave Long-Range, which reaches up to 8 km to a Wave AP. For sheds, granny flats and farm buildings, see our guide Wi-Fi between buildings in Australia.
At the far end, a USW-Flex switch can take PoE++ in and power four PoE+ devices (46 W total PoE with a PoE++ input).
How much power do you need at the far end?
Check your device's maximum power draw against what each option delivers:
| Option | Power available to the device |
|---|---|
| Long-Range Switch + Endpoint | Endpoint passes through up to PoE++; switch ports deliver up to 90 W PoE+++ |
| UACC-LRE repeater | 22.5 W passthrough PoE |
| F-POE-G2 | 24 V / 50 V passive PoE |
From Ubiquiti's official specifications. Always check the device's own maximum power draw.
Which option for which Australian site?
| Site | Our pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Acreage or farm: camera on a far fence or gate | UACC-LRE today; Long-Range Switch when it lands | One cable, no new power circuit to the gate |
| Shopping centre or council car park: boom gates and cameras | Long-Range Switch + Endpoints | Several high-power devices on one switch, up to 800 m each |
| School: sports-field gate readers and cameras | Long-Range Switch + Endpoints, or UACC-LRE for one device | Avoids running mains to the oval |
| Building site perimeter, temporary | UBB bridge, or UACC-LRE | Quick to install and remove |
| New industrial estate with trenching under way | F-POE-G2 fibre | Gigabit to the edge while the trench is open |
| Second building with power already on site | UBB bridge | No cable needed |
ARC IP Networks recommendations based on Ubiquiti's published specifications.
Does it all work in UniFi?
Yes. Ubiquiti manages long-range switching through UniFi, together with your network and physical security, completely licence-free. Ubiquiti also recommends a UniFi switch to power the UACC-LRE repeater. For an overview of the switching range, see the UniFi switch comparison. For cameras on large rural blocks, see Best farm security cameras in Australia.
