Professional Overview

A building-to-building bridge replaces a trench. Where two sites are within line of sight and running fibre between them is expensive or impossible, a pair of UBBs carries the link wirelessly. This SKU supplies a single unit, which is what you order to add a second link leg, replace a damaged unit, or extend an existing deployment — a new point-to-point link needs two.

The design is dual-radio, and that is the point. The main radio runs at 60 GHz across 57–66 GHz with 1,080 or 2,160 MHz channel bandwidth, delivering up to 1.7 Gbps through a 17.2 dBi antenna at up to 19 dBm. 60 GHz is fast and heavily reused because the band is short-range and absorbed by atmosphere, but that same absorption means heavy rain can attenuate the link. So a 5 GHz WiFi 5 backup radio is built in — 2x2 MIMO, 866.6 Mbps at BW80, 10 dBi gain, up to 25 dBm — and traffic fails over to it when 60 GHz degrades. The result is a link that keeps running through weather that would drop a 60 GHz-only bridge, at reduced throughput.

Maximum range is 500 m and the operating mode is point-to-point only. Alignment is helped by built-in LED indicators, so a single installer can aim the dish without a second person on a radio. Management is over Ethernet or Bluetooth, wireless security is WPA2 AES, and the unit ships with PoE power adapters.

The enclosure is UV-resistant polycarbonate, ⌀140 x 90 mm, 376 g, rated IPX6 with wind loading of 56 N at 200 km/h — worth checking against local wind ratings on tall or exposed mounts. It runs from -40 to 70°C at 5 to 95% non-condensing humidity, draws a maximum of 11W at 44–57V DC through one Gigabit RJ45 port, and mounts to a wall or pole. Certifications are CE, FCC and IC. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need one UBB or two?

Two. A point-to-point link needs a unit at each end. This SKU is a single unit, sold for adding to or repairing an existing deployment. The two-unit kit is the UBB SKU.

What is the maximum range?

500 m, with clear line of sight between the two units.

How fast is the link?

Up to 1.7 Gbps on the 60 GHz main radio, and up to 866.6 Mbps on the 5 GHz backup radio at 80 MHz channel width.

Why does it have two radios?

60 GHz gives very high throughput but is attenuated by heavy rain. The 5 GHz WiFi 5 backup radio keeps the link alive at reduced speed when 60 GHz conditions degrade.

How is it powered?

PoE, through one Gigabit RJ45 port, at 44–57V DC with a maximum draw of 11W. PoE power adapters are included.

Is it suitable for exposed outdoor mounting?

Yes. It is IPX6 rated in a UV-resistant polycarbonate enclosure and operates from -40 to 70°C. Wind loading is specified at 56 N at 200 km/h.

How is the link aligned?

Built-in LED alignment indicators on the unit show signal quality during aiming, so one installer can align each end without assistance.

What security does the link use?

WPA2 AES. Management is available over Ethernet or Bluetooth.
