Professional Overview

Multi-mode fibre is the standard choice inside a building — cheaper to terminate than single-mode and more than adequate for the distances involved. This is the transceiver that puts a 10G link on it: an 850 nm SFP+ module with a duplex LC UPC connector at each end of the pair.

The distance figures are where multi-mode needs care. Ubiquiti specifies up to 400 m on OM4 and 300 m on OM3 — the fibre grade, not the transceiver, sets the limit. Installing OM3 and planning for 400 m is a link that will not come up, and it is the single most common mistake with multi-mode 10G. Check what fibre is actually in the ground before committing to a distance.

It is backward compatible with SFP as well as SFP+ interfaces and supports both 1 and 10 Gbps, so it will step down on a Gigabit port rather than refusing to link. Power draw is 0.8 W, negligible against a switch's budget.

Fibre cable is not included — this is the transceiver only, and you need one at each end plus a duplex LC patch lead. Operating range is 0 to 70°C, a data-hall figure rather than an outdoor one. Ubiquiti publishes it as a single unit, a 2-pack and a 20-pack. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How far will it reach?

Up to 400 m over OM4 multi-mode fibre, or 300 m over OM3. The fibre grade sets the limit, not the transceiver.

What connector does it use?

Duplex LC UPC.

Is fibre cable included?

No. This is the transceiver only — you need one module at each end plus a duplex LC patch lead.

Will it work in an SFP port?

Yes. It is compatible with both SFP+ and SFP interfaces and supports 1 and 10 Gbps, so it will step down on a Gigabit port.

What wavelength does it use?

850 nm for both transmit and receive, which is standard for multi-mode.

How much power does it draw?

A maximum of 0.8 W.

What pack sizes are available?

Ubiquiti publishes a single unit, a 2-pack and a 20-pack.

What is the operating temperature range?

0 to 70°C.
