Professional Overview

This is the lighter of the two fail-safe strikes in the UniFi Access range. Fail-safe means the door releases when power is lost, which is the behaviour normally required on an egress route — people must be able to get out during a fire or a power failure. On a secure store or a server room you generally want the opposite, a fail-secure lock.

Holding force is 227 kg from an 8 mm slot depth. That is appropriate for internal doors, office doors and light-duty applications; where a heavier door or a higher security requirement applies, the 15 mm version in the same family holds 1,200 kg.

The electrical draw is the practical advantage. At 200 mA ±10% at 12V DC, this lock draws half the current of the 15 mm strike, which doubles the permissible cable run for a given gauge — Ubiquiti's UA Hub Door guidance allows about 25 m at 24 AWG for a 400 mA lock, so a 200 mA lock is correspondingly more forgiving on a long pull. Wiring is lock 12V/NC on red, lock 12V/COM on black, plus the DPS pair on white.

The dry-contact door status output is rated to a maximum of 30V DC at 0.1A, reporting open when the DPS pair is open and closed when shorted, so the Access Hub can distinguish a door that was released from a door that actually closed. The body is 112 x 21 x 28 mm zinc alloy with stainless steel front plates and latches, operating from -10 to 60°C and storing from -20 to 70°C at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity. Certifications are FCC, IC and CE. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does fail-safe mean?

The door unlocks when power is removed — normally required on egress routes. A fail-secure lock stays locked when power is lost.

What is the holding force?

227 kg, from an 8 mm lock slot depth.

Should I use the 8 mm or the 15 mm version?

The 8 mm holds 227 kg at 200 mA and suits internal and lighter doors. The 15 mm holds 1,200 kg at 400 mA for heavier or higher-security doors.

What power does it need?

12V DC ±10% at 200 mA ±10%, from the UniFi Access Hub's lock output.

Does the lower current help with cabling?

Yes. At 200 mA it draws half the current of the 15 mm strike, which allows a longer cable run for the same conductor gauge.

Does it report door status?

Yes, through a built-in dry contact rated to 30V DC at 0.1A, wired on the white DPS pair.

What doors does it suit?

A single wooden or metal door, recessed into the door frame.

What are the operating conditions?

-10 to 60°C operating, -20 to 70°C storage, at 5 to 90% non-condensing humidity.
