Professional Overview

The G2 Starter Kit is the least complicated way into UniFi Access: one box that controls one door, with the reader and credentials already in it. Everything needed to make a door work is present except the lock hardware itself and the cabling — which is exactly the right scope, because lock choice depends on the door.

The UA Hub Door is the part that does the work. It mounts on DIN rail, takes PoE++ input at 50V DC 1A, and re-distributes power through four PoE outputs at 30W per port with a 45W aggregate ceiling — so the reader and other devices at the door run from the hub rather than needing their own injectors. It supports one door, with two door-exit-request inputs, one door-position input and one emergency input, plus digital inputs for request-to-exit, request-to-enter, remote release and door position sensing. Relay outputs cover both dry (30V DC 1A for lock and aux) and powered (12V DC 1A lock, 12V DC 0.33A aux) wiring. Maximum draw is 30W without PoE output, or 50W with.

Ubiquiti publishes recommended maximum cable lengths per lock type, which is the specification most often overlooked at design time: for a 400 mA electric lock, 25 m at 24 AWG or 66 m at 20 AWG; for an 800 mA 270 kg magnetic lock, only 12 m at 24 AWG or 30 m at 20 AWG. Heavier locks need heavier cable or shorter runs, and getting this wrong produces a lock that chatters rather than one that plainly fails.

The G2 Reader is a 93 x 40 x 36.5 mm in-wall unit, 82 g, in polycarbonate and glass on an aluminium alloy mount, rated IP55 and running -30 to 45°C. It reads NFC at 13.56 MHz within 30 mm, supports ISO/IEC 14443A/14443B/15693/18092, MIFARE Classic and DESFire, and adds BLE 4.1, a proximity sensor and a 0.7W speaker, drawing 5W over PoE. The ten included cards are ISO 7810 ID-1 format using MIFARE DESFire with Ubiquiti's proprietary security protocol. The hub runs 0 to 40°C at 5 to 95% humidity; both devices carry CE, FCC, IC, UL 294 and CAN/ULC-60839-11-1. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the UA-G2-SK?

One UA Hub Door, one G2 Reader and ten access cards.

How many doors does this kit control?

One. The Door Hub supports a single door.

What is the difference between UA-G2-SK and UA-G2-SK-PRO?

This kit ships the standard G2 Reader. The Pro kit ships the G2 Reader Pro, which adds a touchscreen, camera and two-way intercom.

Does the kit include the lock?

No. Lock hardware is chosen to suit the door and is ordered separately. The hub provides both dry relay outputs (30V DC, 1A) and powered outputs (12V DC, 1A lock).

How is the hub powered and mounted?

PoE++ at 50V DC, 1A, on DIN rail. It also provides four PoE outputs at 30W per port, up to a 45W aggregate, to power the reader and other devices at the door.

What cable do I need between the hub and the lock?

It depends on lock current. Ubiquiti recommends up to 25 m at 24 AWG or 66 m at 20 AWG for a 400 mA electric lock, but only 12 m at 24 AWG or 30 m at 20 AWG for an 800 mA 270 kg magnetic lock.

What card technologies does the reader support?

NFC at 13.56 MHz with a read range under 30 mm, covering ISO/IEC 14443A, 14443B, 15693 and 18092, MIFARE Classic and MIFARE DESFire, plus BLE 4.1.

Is it certified for access control use?

Yes. Both the hub and reader carry UL 294 at Level I across destructive attack, line security, endurance and standby power, plus CAN/ULC-60839-11-1 Grade I, CE, FCC and IC.
