The TP-Link Deco BE85 (1-pack) is a single Deco BE85 unit: a BE22000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh router rated at 11530 Mbps on 6 GHz, 8640 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, with 12 streams and 4x4 MU-MIMO. It has a 10 Gbps RJ45 port, a 10 Gbps SFP+/RJ45 combo port, two 2.5 Gbps ports and USB 3.0, and can run on its own as a router or access point or join any existing Deco mesh.

Deco BE85 (1-pack) overview

This listing is the Deco BE85 (1-pack): one Deco BE85 unit on its own. TP-Link positions the BE85 as its high-end BE22000 tri-band whole home mesh Wi-Fi 7 system, and the single unit carries the full specification. The specification table lists 11530 Mbps on 6 GHz, 8640 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, all IEEE 802.11be, for a combined rate TP-Link rounds to 22 Gbps. The radios run 12 streams with 4x4 MU-MIMO and OFDMA, and eight internal high-gain antennas form a signal-boosting array. Wi-Fi 7 features listed are Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 320 MHz channels, 4K-QAM and Multi-RUs. TP-Link points out that the 320 MHz bandwidth is only available on the 6 GHz band, that all of these features need clients that support them, and that the figures are maximum wireless signal rates derived from the IEEE 802.11 standard rather than guaranteed throughput.

A single unit suits two situations. The first is a smaller home or apartment where one powerful router is enough: the Deco BE85 runs in Router Mode or Access Point Mode, so it can take the internet connection directly or sit behind an existing router. The second is adding a node to a Deco network you already have, because TP-Link states that the Deco BE85 is compatible with every other Deco model to form a mesh network and that coverage can be expanded at any time by adding more Decos. When you later add further units, TP-Link's self-developed technology lets each Deco BE85 connect a wireless and a wired backhaul simultaneously, and with MLO the combined backhaul aggregation flow rate is increased. TP-Link does not publish a coverage area for a single Deco BE85.

The wired side is the main reason to choose the BE85 over smaller Decos. Every unit has one 10 Gbps RJ45 port, one 10 Gbps SFP+/RJ45 combo port and two 2.5 Gbps ports, all supporting WAN/LAN auto-sensing. The combo port can convert fibre data to Ethernet cable data with an SFP module, so it can take either a fibre or a copper connection. Any port can be the WAN, but only one port serves as the WAN at a time, and TP-Link notes that 10 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps internet speeds require compatible service plans and equipment. A USB 3.0 port provides an FTP server, a media server and a Samba server for shared storage. TP-Link also lists a quad-core CPU, 12+ high-power FEMs and two internal cooling fans for performance under load in its hardware illustration.

Protection comes from HomeShield, with an SPI firewall, access control, real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner. HomeShield includes the free Basic Plan, fees apply for the Pro Plan, and TP-Link says some features will arrive with later software updates. Wi-Fi encryption covers WPA-Personal, WPA2-Personal and WPA3-Personal, and IoT network and device isolation lets you keep smart devices on their own network. The unit can act as an OpenVPN, PPTP or L2TP/IPSec VPN server and as a client for the same three types. With the Matter protocol the Deco works as a central controller for Matter-certified devices, and TP-Link says you can still reach devices on your local network through the Deco app when your home internet is offline.

Setup is handled in the Deco app: unbox the Deco, install the app and follow the on-screen directions. The app shows every connected device, lets you prioritise your own and set up guest networks, which are available on 6 GHz, 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz with effective time and bandwidth control. Software features include reboot schedule, Tapo/Kasa onboarding, static routing, node and band connection preference, HomeShield QoS and QoS by device, IPTV (IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge and tag VLAN), port forwarding, UPnP, TP-Link DDNS, OTA firmware upgrades and IPv4 and IPv6, and the BE85 works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. The unit measures 128 x 128 x 236 mm and operates from 0 to 40 degrees C. The 1-pack box contains one Deco BE85 unit, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, one power adapter and a quick installation guide.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the Deco BE85 (1-pack) from the ARC IP Networks team.

Last reviewed October 2026.

One Deco BE85 unit, supplied with one RJ45 Ethernet cable, one power adapter and a quick installation guide.

Yes. It runs in Router Mode or Access Point Mode, so one unit can be your main router or provide Wi-Fi behind an existing router.

Yes. TP-Link states that the Deco BE85 is compatible with every other Deco model to form a mesh network.

The specification table lists BE22000: 11530 Mbps on 6 GHz, 8640 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz (802.11be). These are maximum physical signal rates; real throughput depends on clients, the connection and the environment.

It has a 10 Gbps SFP+/RJ45 combo WAN/LAN port that can convert fibre data to Ethernet with an SFP module, alongside a separate 10 Gbps RJ45 port.

All ports support WAN/LAN auto-sensing, but only one port works as the WAN at a time. 10 Gbps and 2.5 Gbps internet speeds need a compatible plan and equipment.

The USB 3.0 port supports an FTP server, a media server and a Samba server.

Yes. OpenVPN, PPTP and L2TP/IPSec are listed as both VPN server and VPN client.

Yes. TP-Link says the Deco works as a central controller for Matter-certified devices and keeps local access to them through the Deco app when the internet is down.

TP-Link does not publish a coverage area for a single unit. Its published speed test used a 4,600 sq ft two-storey home with five bedrooms and multiple Deco BE85 units.
