Features

  • Enterprise Campus 1U switch built for high-density, high-availability deployments — anchors a building floor, hospital wing, school block or hotel where every port must carry both 10 GbE data and 90W PoE+++ simultaneously.
  • (32) 10 GbE RJ45 PoE+++ ports (auto-negotiate 10G / 5G / 2.5G / 1G / 100M / 10M) — every copper uplink to a WiFi 7 AP, UVC camera, EAV endpoint or AV-over-IP fixture runs at multi-gig wire speed.
  • (16) 2.5 GbE RJ45 PoE+++ ports (auto-negotiate 2.5G / 1G / 100M / 10M) — for end-points that don't need 10 GbE but still benefit from 90W power.
  • (4) 25G SFP28 uplinks (25G / 10G / 1G) — twice the upstream capacity of the ECS-24-PoE, enough to LAG to the core without bottlenecking 48 access ports.
  • All 48 RJ45 ports support PoE+++ (90W per port, 802.3bt Type 4) for WiFi 7 APs, multi-radio cameras, digital signage, AV-over-IP endpoints and PoE-powered displays.
  • PoE budget: 2,150W shared / 950W redundant at 200–240V AC, or 1,750W shared / 750W redundant at 100–120V AC — driven by (2) hot-swap 1,200W AC/DC PSU modules.

Professional Overview

The UniFi ECS-48-PoE is the 48-port sibling of the ECS-24-PoE in Ubiquiti's Enterprise Campus line — a 1U full-depth, dual-PSU Layer 3 switch built for buildings, hotels, hospitals, schools, conference centres and large commercial sites where every drop must deliver both 10-gigabit data and 90W PoE+++. The port configuration is uniform across all 48 access ports: 32 × 10 GbE RJ45 PoE+++ + 16 × 2.5 GbE RJ45 PoE+++, with all 48 access ports rated for the full 802.3bt Type 4 (PoE+++, 90W) power class. Four 25G SFP28 uplinks handle aggregation back to the core — twice the upstream capacity of the 24-port model, which is what you want when downlink count doubles.

The dataplane delivers 920 Gbps switching capacity, 460 Gbps non-blocking throughput and 684 Mpps forwarding — double the ECS-24-PoE, so a fully loaded 10 GbE access tier still has full line-rate headroom for east-west traffic between WiFi 7 APs, cameras and AV-over-IP endpoints. The control plane is Layer 3 capable with 512 IPv4 static routes, 1,000 VLANs and a 32,000-entry MAC table, so the switch can route between segments at the access layer without sending all traffic upstream. Per-port Etherlighting™ surfaces link rate, PoE delivery and fault status visually from across a noisy MDF — a real operational improvement when there is no time to interrogate the UI mid-event.

Power is the differentiator. The switch ships with (2) hot-swap 1,200W AC/DC modules giving 2,150W of shared PoE budget at 200–240V AC (or 1,750W at 100–120V AC), with 950W / 750W respectively in redundant N+1 mode. (4) hot-swap fan modules complete the carrier-grade resilience story. Maximum power consumption is 250W excluding PoE output, 2,400W with PoE at full load, and heat dissipation is 785 BTU/hr excluding PoE current.

Build quality is uprated for permanent on-site deployment: SGCC steel chassis and mount, four-post 19" rack support for 650–1,000 mm depths, ESD immunity of ±30 kV air / ±19 kV contact, and an operating envelope of -5 to 40 °C with 10–90% non-condensing humidity. The 1.3" front-panel touchscreen LCM gives port-level status, PoE consumption and clock health without a laptop. The switch is managed through UniFi Network 9.0.114 or later alongside UDM Pro Max gateways, WiFi 7 APs, UNVRs and EAV-Bridge endpoints — no per-port licence. Certifications cover CE, FCC, IC and ANATEL (06181-25-08356). Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

ECS 48 PoE vs ECS 48S PoE vs ECS 24 PoE — Which Enterprise Campus Switch?

All three Enterprise Campus switches share the defining feature: every port is PoE+++ capable at 90 W, powered by two replaceable supply modules that can run in shared mode for maximum budget or redundant mode so a failed supply does not take the access layer down. All are 1U full-depth with four hot-swappable fan modules and Layer 3 routing across 1,000 VLANs.

The difference between the two 48-port models is the port mix and what sits above them:

Choose the ECS 48 PoE when most of your access layer wants 10 GbE copper — server rooms, editing floors, dense WiFi 7 deployments — because it doubles the 10 GbE port count and delivers the highest switching capacity of the three. Choose the ECS 48S PoE when 2.5 GbE is the right access speed and you want the extras that come with it: stacking, two 100G QSFP28 ports for a very high-capacity uplink or stack link, and a dedicated out-of-band management port. Choose the ECS 24 PoE where 24 ports is enough. Compare the wider range in our UniFi switch guide. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions — Ubiquiti ECS-48-PoE

What is the Ubiquiti ECS-48-PoE?

The ECS-48-PoE is a 48-port Layer 3 Enterprise Campus switch where every port supports PoE+++ at 90 W. It provides 32 10 GbE and 16 2.5 GbE RJ45 ports plus four 25G SFP28 uplinks, with 920 Gbps switching capacity (460 Gbps non-blocking). Power comes from two replaceable supply modules delivering up to 2,150 W of PoE in shared mode, and cooling from four hot-swappable fan modules.

What is the difference between the ECS 48 PoE and the ECS 48S PoE?

Both deliver 90 W PoE+++ on all 48 ports, up to 2,150 W total, dual replaceable power supplies and four hot-swappable fans. The ECS 48 PoE has 32 10 GbE and 16 2.5 GbE ports with 920 Gbps switching capacity, suiting access layers that need 10 GbE copper widely. The ECS 48S PoE reverses that to 16 10 GbE and 32 2.5 GbE ports at 680 Gbps, and adds stacking support, two 100G QSFP28 ports and a dedicated 1 GbE management port.

How much PoE power does it provide?

Up to 2,150 W in shared mode on 200-240 V AC (about 1,750 W on 100-120 V), with PoE+++ at 90 W available on every one of the 48 ports. In redundant mode the available budget is lower, because either module alone must be able to carry the load - size against the redundant figure if uptime matters.

What is shared mode versus redundant mode?

The two power supply modules can run either way. Shared mode uses both together for the maximum PoE budget. Redundant mode means either module alone can carry the load, so a failed supply does not interrupt the switch, at the cost of roughly half the headline budget. Choose based on whether maximum power or continuous uptime matters more.

Does it support Layer 3 routing?

Yes. It is a Layer 3 switch with inter-VLAN routing and support for 1,000 VLANs, managed through the UniFi Network application with no licensing or per-port fees.

What rack space and depth does it need?

One rack unit, but it is a full-depth switch requiring four-post racks with post depths between roughly 650 and 1,000 mm. Check your cabinet depth before ordering - it will not fit a shallow wall-mount enclosure.

Which devices can it power?

Any current UniFi device and most third-party PoE hardware: WiFi 7 access points including the E7, AI and PTZ cameras, the UniFi AI Key, Access hubs needing PoE++, and 802.3af/at/bt devices generally - each at up to 90 W over a single cable.

Ubiquiti ECS-48-PoE: 48 PoE+++ ports at 90W each

The Switch Enterprise Campus 48 PoE is an enterprise Layer 3 Etherlighting switch with 48 PoE+++ ports delivering up to 90W per port, and 460 Gbps of non-blocking throughput (920 Gbps switching capacity).

Port layout is 32 (All PoE+++) (10G/5G/2.5G/1G/100M/10M) 10 GbE RJ45, 16 (All PoE+++) (2.5G/1G/100M/10M) 2.5 GbE RJ45, 4 (25G/10G/1G) 25G SFP28. It is a Rack Mount (1U, Full-Depth) unit weighing Without mounting brackets: 9.46 kg (20.9 lb) With mounting brackets: 9.56 kg (21.1 lb).

PoE budget in Australia: shared vs redundant

This is the specification that decides your design, and it is easy to get wrong. The PoE budget depends on both your supply voltage and whether you run the two power modules in shared or redundant mode.

Australia runs at 230V, so the 200–240V figures apply:

ModePoE budget at 230VWhat it means
Shared mode2,150WBoth modules contribute. Maximum PoE, no PSU redundancy.
Redundant mode950WOne module can fail without dropping the switch — but budget falls sharply.

Plan for this before you order. If you need PSU redundancy, your usable PoE budget is 950W, not 2,150W. Loading the switch to shared-mode capacity and then enabling redundancy will leave ports unable to power up.

Per-port classes are 15.4W (PoE), 30W (PoE+), 60W (PoE++) and 90W (PoE+++). Our access point comparison lists the draw of each UniFi AP so you can total the load.

Full voltage and mode matrix: 200-240V AC Shared Mode: 2,150W 100-120V AC Shared Mode: 1,750W 200-240V AC Redundant Mode: 950W 100-120V AC Redundant Mode: 750W
