Why choose the DS-2TD1228-7/QA

Ordinary cameras need light and contrast to see; a thermal sensor sees heat. The DS-2TD1228-7/QA puts both in one turret: a 256 × 192 vanadium-oxide thermal module with NETD below 40 mK picks out people, vehicles and hot spots even in complete darkness, while the 4 MP optical channel gives you a familiar colour image for identification. On top of the imaging it adds genuinely useful site protection: fire detection, smoking detection and temperature-exception alarms from −20 °C to 150 °C, plus four perimeter rules (line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and exit) with human and vehicle classification. When a rule fires it can flash its white light (up to 30 m) and play a voice alert. It runs on standard 802.3af PoE at just 6.5 W and is rated IP67 from −40 °C to 65 °C. Supplied and supported by ARC IP Networks with genuine Australian stock.

Thermal measurement, not medical screening: It measures the surface temperature of objects and scenes for fire prevention and equipment monitoring. It is not a body-temperature, fever-screening or medical device. Temperature accuracy is ±8 °C, which suits early fire warning, not precise process control.

Best for

  • Early fire warning: flags hot spots and open flame (a 0.2 × 0.2 m fire at up to 82.8 m) before smoke detectors react.
  • No-smoking zones: built-in smoking detection for fuel, chemical and storage areas (reference range 10.35 m).
  • Perimeters in total darkness: thermal imaging is independent of light, with human and vehicle classification to cut nuisance alarms.
  • Active deterrence: a flashing white light (to 30 m) and voice alerts warn intruders off before they reach the asset.
  • Simple PoE installs: one 802.3af cable, 6.5 W maximum, in a compact 138 mm turret.

Specifications from the official Hikvision datasheet for the DS-2TD1228-7/QA. Range and DORI figures are Hikvision reference values and vary with environment.

Professional Overview

The Hikvision DS-2TD1228-7/QA is a HeatPro thermal and optical bi-spectrum turret designed for sites where an ordinary camera is not enough: villas and residential communities, car parks, warehouses, construction sites, waste-incineration plants and manufacturing workshops. It combines a 256 × 192 thermal channel with a 4 MP optical channel in a single IP67 turret housing, so one mounting point delivers both heat-based detection and a familiar colour picture.

The thermal module uses a 12 μm vanadium-oxide uncooled sensor with NETD below 40 mK, a 6.9 mm lens and a 24.9° × 18.7° field of view. The optical side uses a 1/2.7″ sensor at 2688 × 1520 behind a 6.4 mm lens (53.0° horizontal), with 120 dB WDR, 0.0089 lux sensitivity and infrared to 15 m. Hikvision’s reference ranges put vehicle VCA at 144.9 m, human VCA at 55.2 m and fire detection of a 0.2 m object at 82.8 m.

Its analytics are aimed at prevention. Temperature-exception alarms cover −20 °C to 150 °C with ±8 °C accuracy across up to 21 point, area and line rules; fire detection and smoking detection run on the camera; and a sun-reflection filter reduces false fire alarms. Four perimeter rule types classify humans and vehicles, and an alarm can trigger the white light (to 30 m), a voice alert, an SD recording, a relay output, FTP upload or email. It measures the surface temperature of objects and scenes for fire prevention and equipment monitoring. It is not a body-temperature, fever-screening or medical device.

Installation is straightforward: 802.3af PoE at a maximum of 6.5 W or 12 VDC, microSD recording up to 256 GB, ONVIF Profile S/G, ISAPI and ISUP for integration, and management through iVMS-4200 or Hik-Connect. It operates from −40 °C to 65 °C with 6000 V TVS protection. Note that thermal products can be subject to export controls. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

How it compares

Hikvision makes thermal cameras for very different jobs. Here is how this compact HeatPro turret compares with the thermographic PTZ speed dome in the same bi-spectrum family.

Complete your system

The DS-2TD1228-7/QA runs on a single 802.3af PoE port (max 6.5 W) and records to its own microSD card, a NAS, or an NVR/VMS over ONVIF, ISAPI or ISUP. Before choosing a recorder, confirm it supports thermal/bi-spectrum channels and temperature data if you need them in playback. A managed PoE switch such as the Hikvision DS-3E1309P-EI powers the camera and its neighbours from one box.

Works with your system

Two views, one camera. The thermal channel streams at up to 1280 × 720 and the optical channel at 2688 × 1520, each with H.265 compression, so you get heat detection and a recognisable picture from a single network drop.

iVMS-4200

Hikvision desktop client listed in the datasheet for live view, configuration and playback.

Hik-Connect

Remote viewing and alarm notifications on iOS and Android.

ONVIF Profile S & G

Integrates with compatible third-party NVRs and VMS platforms.

ISAPI, SDK & ISUP

Open interfaces for integrators and management platforms.

Alarm I/O & RS-485

Trigger sirens, relays or PLC inputs from fire and temperature events.

Standard PoE (802.3af)

Single-cable power and data from any 802.3af switch or injector.

Frequently asked questions

It is a Hikvision HeatPro thermal and optical bi-spectrum network turret camera. One housing contains a 256 × 192 thermal sensor with a 6.9 mm lens and a 4 MP optical camera with a 6.4 mm lens.

No. It measures the surface temperature of objects and scenes for fire prevention and equipment monitoring. It is not a body-temperature, fever-screening or medical device. Its temperature accuracy is ±8 °C across −20 °C to 150 °C.

The thermal channel looks for abnormal heat sources and raises a fire alarm; Hikvision rates detection of a 0.2 × 0.2 m fire at up to 82.8 m. A sun-reflection filter helps avoid false alarms from reflected sunlight, and temperature-exception rules (10 points, 10 areas, 1 line) can alarm on specific objects or zones.

Yes. Smoking detection is built in, with a Hikvision reference range of 10.35 m, which suits no-smoking areas such as fuel, chemical and storage zones.

Yes. Its VCA supports line crossing, intrusion, region entrance and region exiting with vehicle/human classification, up to 8 rules in total. Reference VCA range is 144.9 m for vehicles and 55.2 m for humans.

It can flash its white light (up to 30 m, adjustable frequency), play one of 2 preset or 6 importable voice alerts, record to microSD, switch its alarm output, capture, upload to FTP or send an email.

By standard PoE (IEEE 802.3af, class 3) at a maximum of 6.5 W, or by 12 VDC at a maximum of 6 W.

Yes. It is rated IP67 with 6000 V TVS lightning and surge protection, and operates from −40 °C to 65 °C.
