ARC DATA ARC-ONU-8P at a glance

The ARC DATA ARC-ONU-8P is a GPON/EPON optical network unit with eight Gigabit PoE+ ports. It takes one single-mode fibre from an OLT up to 20 km away and powers up to eight IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points or IP phones at up to 30 W per port, on a 130 W total budget. It replaces the media converter, PoE switch and injectors a fibre-fed cabinet would otherwise need.

ARC DATA is the networking brand of the ARC group. ARC IP Networks supplies the ARC-ONU-8P from Australian stock.

PoE+ ports8 x GE, 30 W each
PoE budget130 W total
PONGPON / EPON
Fibre reachUp to 20 km

Best for

  • CCTV over fibre: powering IP cameras at the far end of a long fibre run
  • Car parks, councils, campuses and industrial sites where copper PoE runs are too long
  • Building risers, floors and multi-tenant buildings on a passive optical LAN (POL)
  • Powering Wi-Fi access points and IP phones from a fibre-fed cabinet

Key features

Eight Gigabit Ethernet ports, all PoE+ (IEEE 802.3at / 802.3af), up to 30 W per port.

130 W total budget including PoE: power eight cameras, APs or phones with no local switch.

One single-mode fibre in, SC/UPC, up to 20 km from the OLT.

Dual-mode: auto-detects and registers to a GPON or EPON OLT.

VLAN tag, transparent and trunk modes (up to 8 VLANs), port rate limiting, loop and storm control.

Four QoS queues with SP and WRR, plus IGMP v1/v2 snooping for video multicast.

Rogue-ONU detection and hardware Dying Gasp to protect the PON.

Managed centrally from the OLT over ITU-T G.984.x OMCI, plus web, Telnet and CLI.

The ARC DATA ARC-ONU-8P in depth

A fibre-fed 8-port PoE switch in one box

The ARC-ONU-8P terminates a single fibre and hands off eight Gigabit Ethernet ports, every one of them PoE+. At a camera pole, a car park, a floor or a building riser, it does the job of a media converter, a PoE switch and injectors, so the cabinet needs only the ONU and its power adapter.

Why run CCTV over fibre

Copper Ethernet and PoE are limited to 100 m per run. A passive optical network carries the signal up to 20 km over single-mode fibre through passive splitters, with no powered equipment between the OLT and the ONU. The ARC-ONU-8P then powers the cameras locally.

Planning the PoE budget

Each port delivers up to 30 W under 802.3at (PoE+) and supports 802.3af devices. The total unit budget is 130 W including PoE, so plan for the combined load of the attached devices rather than 30 W on all eight ports at once.

GPON or EPON, managed from the OLT

The unit is dual-mode and auto-detects the access node. It is provisioned centrally over OMCI, with VLAN, QoS and IGMP snooping, and Dying Gasp reports a power loss to the OLT.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the ARC DATA ARC-ONU-8P from the ARC IP Networks team. Last reviewed November 2026.

It brings eight powered Gigabit Ethernet ports to the end of one fibre. It is used to power IP cameras, Wi-Fi access points and IP phones on CCTV-over-fibre and passive optical LAN projects, such as car parks, councils, campuses, building risers and multi-tenant buildings.

Up to 30 W per port under IEEE 802.3at (PoE+), with 802.3af devices supported. The total budget including PoE is 130 W, so plan the combined load rather than 30 W on all eight ports at once.

Yes. It is dual-mode and auto-detects whether it is connected to a GPON or an EPON OLT, then registers to it.

Up to 20 km over single-mode fibre, terminated SC/UPC.

No. All eight ports supply PoE+ from the ONU itself, so the far-end cabinet needs only the ONU and its DC 54 V power adapter.

Centrally from the OLT over ITU-T G.984.x OMCI, with CTC OAM 2.0 and 2.1, plus local web, Telnet and CLI.

Same chassis, optics and features, with eight PoE+ ports and a 130 W budget instead of four ports and 60 W. Choose by port count and total PoE load.
