The TP-Link VIGI NVR2016H-16P is a 16-channel network video recorder with sixteen built-in 10/100 Mbps PoE+ ports sharing a 90 W PoE budget. It handles 160 Mbps of incoming and outgoing bandwidth, takes two SATA drives of up to 16 TB each (not included) plus eSATA, has a gigabit uplink, 6/4 alarm I/O and simultaneous 4K HDMI and VGA output.

VIGI NVR2016H-16P overview

The VIGI NVR2016H-16P combines TP-Link's two-bay 16-channel VIGI recorder with sixteen RJ-45 10/100 Mbps PoE+ ports, compliant with 802.3at and 802.3af, so each camera can be connected and powered from the recorder. TP-Link lists 90 W available across all PoE+ ports with up to 30 W on any one, footnoting that the figure is calculated from laboratory testing using VIGI cameras and that actual performance may vary with the amount of activity recorded, resolution and other variables. It runs from a 53.5 V DC 2.43 A supply, and maximum consumption is 6.2 W without disks and 40 W with disks. For a larger budget, the NVR2016H-16MP lists 140 W on the same number of ports.

Bandwidth is 160 Mbps incoming and 160 Mbps outgoing, the same as the non-PoE NVR2016H. Record resolutions run from 8MP to QCIF, and decoding is listed as ten channels at 1080p at 25 fps, or two channels at 8MP, four at 5MP, five at 4MP or six at 3MP at 30 fps. Sixteen channels can play back synchronously, though TP-Link notes fewer than 16, or none, may play if total resolution exceeds 16MP. Outputs are one HDMI up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz and one VGA up to 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz, running as simultaneous output, with up to sixteen windows.

Storage is two SATA interfaces supporting up to 16 TB per drive plus one eSATA interface; TP-Link states the HDD is not included. TP-Link's page describes One-Click System Initialise for quick camera additions, HDD initialisation and storage scheduling, but footnotes that this feature will be implemented in the future through firmware updates, so it should not be counted on at purchase. Recording is manual, scheduled or motion triggered, with instant, regular, tag and event playback, and the playback toolset includes frame-by-frame, digital zoom, clip export and recording lock.

Alongside the PoE ports are a 10/100/1000 Mbps uplink, a front USB 2.0 and rear USB 3.0 port, 1-channel RCA audio in and out, and six alarm inputs and four alarm outputs. Smart alarms, which require a camera, include line-crossing, intrusion, loitering, human and vehicle detection, abnormal sound, scene change and Smart Frame, with a fan exception among the anomaly alarms. Interoperability is ONVIF Profile S and CGI. The chassis measures 330 x 285 x 45 mm and weighs 2.2 kg; TP-Link recommends a tray (not included) when rack mounting with angle iron because of its weight. The box includes the recorder, power adapter, power cable, HDD power and data cables, mounting accessories, mouse and quick installation guide.
