Professional Overview

The Ubiquiti UA-Retrofit-Reader-Fingerprint-B is the black-finish Access Retrofit Reader Fingerprint, the biometric reader in Ubiquiti's UniFi Access Retrofit line. It exists for buildings that already have wired access control: instead of pulling new Ethernet to every door, the reader connects to the UniFi Retrofit Hub over the existing low-voltage reader cabling and brings fingerprint, PIN, card and phone credentials into UniFi Access.

It pairs a capacitive fingerprint sensor with a capacity of 300 fingerprints, a physical keypad, a 13.56 MHz NFC reader with a read range under 30 mm (ISO 14443A/B and 15693; MIFARE Classic, Plus, Ultralight and DESFire; NFC Tag types 1–5) and Apple Touch Pass for iPhone and Apple Watch, with 10 free 1-year Touch Passes included. BLE 4.2 sits alongside NFC.

Reader communication is RS-485 using OSDP v2, the encrypted and supervised open standard that replaces Wiegand, and the reader runs on 12 V DC with a maximum consumption of 3.5 W. It is managed in UniFi Access on a UniFi OS console (Ubiquiti lists UniFi OS 6.0 RC as the minimum), where doors, schedules and credentials sit alongside the UniFi network and Protect cameras. The Retrofit range is supplied under the Ubiquiti Enterprise Program.

The housing is polycarbonate with an aluminium-alloy body on a steel mount, measuring 126.2 × 45 × 49 mm and weighing 142 g. It is rated IP55 and classed as Outdoor Exposed, operates from -30 to 50 °C at 5–90% non-condensing humidity, and carries CE, FCC and IC certifications. A wall and gang-box mount is included, with a junction-box mount optional. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks, with the full manufacturer's warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Ubiquiti UA-Retrofit-Reader-Fingerprint-B?

The UA-Retrofit-Reader-Fingerprint-B is the black version of Ubiquiti's UniFi Access Retrofit Reader Fingerprint, an indoor/outdoor OSDP v2 reader with a fingerprint sensor, keypad, NFC card reader and Apple Touch Pass support. It connects to the UniFi Retrofit Hub using existing cabling.

What hub does the UA-Retrofit-Reader-Fingerprint-B need?

It is designed for the UniFi Access Retrofit Hub (UA-Retrofit-Hub-2), which supports OSDP and Wiegand readers and provides entry and exit control for up to two doors. It is not a PoE/Ethernet reader, so it does not connect to a UniFi Access Hub or switch directly.

How is the UA-Retrofit-Reader-Fingerprint-B wired and powered?

It communicates over RS-485 using OSDP v2 and runs on 12 V DC with a maximum power consumption of 3.5 W, which lets it reuse the low-voltage cabling of an existing reader installation.

How many fingerprints can it store?

Ubiquiti specifies a fingerprint capacity of 300.

Which credentials does it accept?

Fingerprint, keypad PIN, NFC cards (ISO 14443A/B and 15693, including MIFARE Classic, Plus, Ultralight and DESFire) and Apple Touch Pass on iPhone or Apple Watch. Ubiquiti includes 10 free 1-year Touch Passes.

Can the UA-Retrofit-Reader-Fingerprint-B be mounted outdoors?

Yes. It is rated IP55, Ubiquiti classes it as Outdoor Exposed, and it operates from -30 to 50 °C at 5–90% non-condensing humidity.

What is the difference between the Retrofit Reader Fingerprint and the standard Retrofit Reader?

Both are OSDP v2 readers for the Retrofit Hub with NFC and Apple Touch Pass. The Fingerprint model adds a 300-fingerprint biometric sensor and a keypad, and draws 3.5 W instead of 2.5 W.

Is the UA-Retrofit-Reader-Fingerprint-B part of the Ubiquiti Enterprise Program?

Yes. The UniFi Retrofit range is supplied under the Ubiquiti Enterprise Program, so please contact ARC IP Networks before ordering for project pricing and lead time.
