The TP-Link TC34 is a Tapo indoor/outdoor security camera with two 2K lenses in one body: a fixed 2.8 mm wide-angle lens with a 125.5° diagonal view and a 6 mm telephoto lens on a motorised pan/tilt head. When the wide lens spots motion, people or pets, the telephoto lens turns to track the subject. It recognises people, pets, vehicles and sounds such as a baby crying without subscription fees, has IP65 weatherproofing, and mounts on a desk, wall, ceiling or pole.

TC34 overview

TP-Link Australia describes the TC34 as an indoor/outdoor dual lens pan/tilt security camera that lets you see wide and zoom sharp from one device. Both lenses record 2K at 2304 x 1296 and 15 fps using H.264, on a 1/2.8-inch progressive scan CMOS starlight sensor with 3DNR and WDR. The upper lens is a fixed 2.8 mm F1.6 wide-angle with a 125.5° diagonal, 107.8° horizontal and 57.8° vertical field of view. The lower lens is a 6 mm F1.6 telephoto (67.1° diagonal) mounted on the pan/tilt mechanism.

The two lenses are designed to cooperate. With synchronised smart tracking, the fixed lens watches for events such as motion, people and pets, and the pan/tilt telephoto pivots to focus on and follow the moving subject. One-tap smart focus lets you tap a point in the wide-angle view so the pan/tilt lens turns to it; TP-Link notes a manual zoom-in is needed to enlarge the PT image during live view. TP-Link rates the telephoto at 3x the clarity of a standard lens with up to 10.8x digital zoom.

Although the wide lens is fixed, you can set its aim during installation: TP-Link states it adjusts by hand from -10° to 10° vertically and through 360° horizontally. Because the two views are independent, the TC34 can monitor two separate areas at once on one screen. For the motorised lens, patrol mode provides continuous 360° surveillance, up to 8 preset viewing points can be defined, and schedules can direct the camera to particular areas at set times.

Detection on the TC34 is broad. The specification table lists motion, person, pet, vehicle and line-crossing detection, baby cry, glass break, dog bark and cat meow detection, and camera tampering, and TP-Link says the AI notifications carry no subscription fees. Activity zones work with motion, person, pet and vehicle detection, while privacy zones block recording in chosen areas. At night you can choose full-colour with the spotlights, black-and-white infrared (850 nm, rated to 40 ft or 12 m), or a smart mode that moves from infrared to colour when motion is detected.

The TC34 is IP65 rated, operates from -20 °C to 50 °C, and can be positioned upright or upside down on a desk, wall, ceiling or pole. It is powered by a 5 V 2 A Type-C adapter with a 3 m cord, drawing 3.0 W typically and 9.0 W at most. It connects over 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, supports RTSP and ONVIF, integrates with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa and Samsung SmartThings, and has a 99 dB siren. Storage is microSD up to 512 GB (purchased separately) or Tapo Care cloud by subscription, and a Tapo H500 or H200 HomeBase (purchased separately) can show recorded clips from all your Tapo cameras. It weighs 277 g.
