The TP-Link OC300 is an Omada hardware controller: a rackmount/desktop appliance that runs the Omada SDN controller on-premises, with free cloud access through the Omada app or web UI. It centrally manages up to 500 Omada access points, 100 Omada gateways, up to 100 Omada switches and up to five DeltaStream GPON OLTs across up to 100 sites. It has a quad-core A72 processor, 2 GB DDR4, 8 GB eMMC, two Gigabit Ethernet ports and a USB 3.0 port for auto backup.

OC300 overview

The OC300 is TP-Link's Omada Hardware Controller. It is a dedicated appliance that runs the Omada SDN controller software, so an Omada network can be configured, monitored and maintained from one place without keeping a PC or server running the software controller. TP-Link describes it as hybrid cloud management: devices can be managed locally on-premises, which TP-Link says gives the ultimate security and stability, and remotely through free cloud access with the Omada app or web UI from anywhere. The OC300 is the mid-range Omada hardware controller; the OC400 above it handles twice the access points and switches.

TP-Link lists the management scale as up to 500 Omada access points, 100 Omada gateways, a maximum of 100 Omada switches and a maximum of five DeltaStream GPON OLTs. Each OLT added reduces the supported switch count by five, and the datasheet names the DS-P7001-04 and DS-P7001-08 as the supported OLTs. System limits include 100 sites, 1,000 accounts (500 local and 500 cloud), 50,000 vouchers, 50,000 local users, 500 WLAN groups with 24 SSIDs each, and up to 4,090 simultaneously used VLANs per site depending on switch capacity. TP-Link notes that the actual management scale varies with network environment, bandwidth and settings.

Inside, the datasheet lists a quad-core A72 processor at 1.2 GHz, 2 GB of DDR4 memory, 2 MB NOR flash and 8 GB of eMMC storage. TP-Link says the chipset delivers more than enough processing power for large network management, with enterprise-grade reliability for uninterrupted 24/7 operation under heavy loads. The durable metal case measures 294 x 180 x 44 mm, weighs 1.16 kg and suits both desktop and rack installation, with a rackmount kit in the box. Interfaces are two 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet ports, one USB 3.0 port that TP-Link highlights for auto backup, a Kensington lock slot and a reset button. Power is 100-240 V AC, 50/60 Hz, with maximum consumption of 9.0 W, or 14.8 W with a USB 3.0 device connected. MTBF is 947,677 hours at 25 degrees C.

Monitoring centres on a redesigned dashboard with Overview, Topology, Wi-Fi, Client and Traffic views. Smart topology shows connected and disconnected devices and VLANs with customisable filters; client management auto-recognises wireless clients; traffic insights break usage down by application and client on a real-time timeline; and insights cover known clients, past connections, past portal authorisations and rogue APs. Logs include alerts, events and custom notifications. TP-Link also lists a Wi-Fi heatmap simulator and visual network reports for maintenance, and SSH, packet capture and network diagnostics for troubleshooting.

For deployment, site and device templates let configuration be created once and bound to multiple sites, which then synchronise automatically. Zero-touch provisioning adds devices by scanning the device key and pre-configuring networks remotely, which TP-Link says removes the need for on-site IT experts. SD-WAN connects branch offices to headquarters in a few clicks without complex VPN setup. Through the controller, Omada networks get ACL, URL filtering and attack defence, routing and NAT, SSL, WireGuard, IPsec, L2TP, PPTP and OpenVPN VPN, captive portals with voucher, local user, SMS, RADIUS or external portal server, 802.1X, DPI and IPS/IDS. Device management includes batch configuration and batch firmware upgrades, reboot, PoE and WLAN schedules, DDNS and SNMP, and the controller offers multi-tenant management, site and controller migration, backup, auto backup and an open API. It is rated for 0 to 50 degrees C and carries CE and FCC certification. In the box are the OC300, a quick installation guide, an Ethernet cable, a power cord and a rackmount kit.
