The TP-Link EAP720 is the entry-level Omada Wi-Fi 7 ceiling access point: dual-band BE3600 with 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, Multi-Link Operation and 4K-QAM, a single 2.5G Ethernet port powered by 802.3at PoE or the included 12 V DC adapter, and 250+ concurrent clients listed across about 140 m².

EAP720 overview

TP-Link describes the EAP720 as the ideal entry-level choice for a Wi-Fi 7 network, and the AU model is the BE3600 version. It has two bands with two spatial streams each (2x2 MIMO on 2.4 GHz and on 5 GHz) and signal rates of 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz and 2882 Mbps on 5 GHz. TP-Link states that maximum signal rates are physical rates from the IEEE 802.11 standard, and that throughput, coverage and connected devices are not guaranteed and vary with service provider factors, network conditions, client limitations and the environment.

The Wi-Fi 7 features it lists are Multi-Link Operation across 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, Multi-RUs, 4K-QAM and 160 MHz channels (EHT160) on 5 GHz, with OFDMA and MU-MIMO; TP-Link notes each of these requires clients that also support the feature. TP-Link credits Multi-Link Operation, Multi-RUs and 4K-QAM with lower latency and interference, and with better throughput, connection stability and concurrent capacity.

For wired performance the EAP720 has one 2.5 Gbps multi-gigabit RJ45 port, so its combined Wi-Fi rate is not held back by a gigabit uplink when it is connected to a 2.5G switch port. The port accepts 802.3at PoE+, and TP-Link includes a 12 V / 1.5 A DC power adapter for sites without PoE. The AU page lists maximum consumption of 16.8 W on PoE and 13.0 W on DC; the datasheet gives 17.8 W for 802.3at and 6.7 W idle. Ethernet surge protection is ±4 kV.

TP-Link lists 250+ concurrent clients, adding that actual capacity depends on the wireless environment and client traffic and is generally less than the maximum, and coverage of about 140 m² (1500 ft²), calculated from laboratory testing and not guaranteed. Up to 16 SSIDs (eight per band) can carry separate guest and staff networks, and security covers WPA3 including Enhanced Open, 802.1X, PPSK, MAC filtering for up to 4,000 entries, client isolation, rogue AP detection and SMS login through the captive portal.

The body is a 160 x 160 x 36.7 mm disc weighing 0.41 kg, rated for 0 to 40 °C, with internal antennas (2x 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz, 2x 5 dBi on 5 GHz) and Bluetooth (BLE 5.2). It mounts with a push-up-and-rotate lock, and the ceiling, wall and junction-box kit is included. Management is through Omada SDN: Omada Central (cloud-based), a hardware controller, the software controller (V5.9.x and above) or the Omada app (V4.20 and above). Mesh, seamless roaming, captive portal and cloud access on the EAP720 all depend on an Omada controller.

Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about the EAP720 from the ARC IP Networks team.

Last reviewed October 2026.

Yes. It is a dual-band BE3600 Wi-Fi 7 (802.11be) ceiling access point, which TP-Link describes as an entry-level choice for Wi-Fi 7.

2882 Mbps on 5 GHz and 688 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. These are maximum physical signal rates; actual throughput depends on clients, interference and the environment.

No. It is a dual-band model using 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, with Multi-Link Operation across those two bands.

By 802.3at PoE+ through its 2.5G port, or by the 12 V / 1.5 A DC adapter included in the box. The AU page lists 16.8 W maximum on PoE and 13.0 W on DC.

So the wired uplink is not capped at 1 Gbps. Connect it to a 2.5G or multi-gigabit switch port to use the full link.

TP-Link lists 250+ concurrent clients and about 140 m² of coverage. Both are maximums from testing; TP-Link notes real capacity is generally lower.

It can be set up through its web interface or the Omada app, but Mesh, seamless roaming, captive portal and cloud access on the EAP720 all depend on an Omada controller.

0 to 40 °C operating, with 10 to 90% non-condensing humidity.

The EAP720 access point, a power adapter, a ceiling/wall/junction-box mounting kit and an installation guide.
