The TP-Link EAP225 is an Omada AC1350 dual-band Wi-Fi 5 ceiling mount access point (AU hardware V4.20). It delivers up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and 450 Mbps on 2.4 GHz with 802.11ac Wave 2 MU-MIMO, has one Gigabit port powered by 802.3af PoE or 24 V passive PoE (passive PoE adapter included), up to 16 SSIDs, Omada Mesh and seamless roaming, and is managed through Omada SDN.

EAP225 overview

The EAP225 is TP-Link's Omada AC1350 dual-band Gigabit ceiling mount access point; TP-Link Australia's current page shows hardware version V4.20 and titles it the AC1350 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Ceiling Mount Access Point, while the package list names it the AC1350 Wireless MU-MIMO Gigabit Ceiling Mount Access Point. TP-Link says it is outfitted with 802.11ac Wave 2 MU-MIMO technology and easily delivers dual-band Wi-Fi speeds of up to 1350 Mbps to multiple devices at the same time. The signal rates are up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and up to 450 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, to IEEE 802.11ac/n/g/b/a. As with all Wi-Fi figures, these are maximum physical rates; TP-Link notes actual throughput varies with network conditions, client limitations and the environment.

Radio hardware is three internal omni antennas, 4 dBi on 2.4 GHz and 5 dBi on 5 GHz, in a 205.5 x 181.5 x 37.1 mm ceiling or wall mount housing with mounting kits included. Transmit power is listed as up to 20 dBm EIRP on 2.4 GHz and 23 dBm EIRP on 5 GHz under CE, and up to 24 dBm and 22 dBm under FCC. Wireless functions include up to 16 SSIDs (8 per band), automatic channel assignment, transmit power control in dBm, WMM QoS, seamless roaming, Omada Mesh, band steering, load balance, MU-MIMO, airtime fairness, beamforming, rate limiting, reboot and wireless schedules and wireless statistics by SSID, AP or client.

Power is flexible. The EAP225 has one Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 port that accepts either IEEE 802.3af PoE from a PoE switch or 24 V passive PoE, and TP-Link includes the passive PoE adapter and a power cord in the box, so it can be installed without a PoE switch. Maximum power consumption is 12.6 W. This is the main practical difference from the EAP223, which shares the AC1350 radio, antenna layout and 12.6 W rating but ships without a PoE adapter. A physical security lock slot and a reset button are provided. It operates at 0 to 40 C and is certified CE and FCC.

For guests and security, the captive portal keeps the network to authorised guests and supports SMS authentication, alongside access control, wireless MAC address filtering, wireless isolation between clients, SSID-to-VLAN mapping, rogue AP detection and 802.1X. Management options are HTTP/HTTPS web management, SSH, SNMP v1/v2c, local and remote syslog, email alerts, LED on/off control, management MAC access control, L3 management, multi-site management and a management VLAN. Centralised management uses the OC300 or OC200 hardware controllers, the Omada software controller or the Omada cloud-based controller; TP-Link notes the cloud-based controller and Zero-Touch Provisioning are supported by EAP225 V3.0, V4.0 and above, but not by EAP225 V3.20. The free Omada app lets you configure settings, monitor network status and manage clients from a phone or tablet. In the box are the EAP225, a passive PoE adapter, a power cord, mounting kits and an installation guide.
