The TP-Link TD21 is a Tapo battery-powered video doorbell that records 2K 3MP (2304 x 1296) with a 160° diagonal head-to-toe view and full-colour night vision from a built-in spotlight. A 6400 mAh rechargeable battery is rated for 180 days at 300 seconds of use per day in TP-Link's figures, person detection is free with no subscription, and an indoor chime is included. It is rated IP65 and records to microSD up to 512 GB (sold separately).

TD21 overview

The TD21 is TP-Link Australia's 2K battery-powered video doorbell in the Tapo range. Its 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS sensor and ultra-wide 1.18 mm F1.8 lens give a 160° diagonal field of view (135° horizontal, 109° vertical), which TP-Link describes as head-to-toe coverage in a single, uninterrupted sweep. Video is 2K 3MP at 2304 x 1296 pixels and 15 fps in H.264, with 10x digital zoom and 3DNR and WDR. TP-Link's own package list on the TD21 page names the doorbell as the Tapo D210, and the gallery images are of the D210.

For night-time visitors, full-colour night vision is paired with a built-in spotlight, which TP-Link says shows the front doorstep in vivid detail even in pitch-black conditions, and 850 nm IR LEDs give night vision to 25 ft (7.6 m). Motion is sensed by dual PIR motion sensors with a 150° horizontal field of view, plus an ambient light sensor. AI detection on the TD21 is person detection: TP-Link calls it free AI detection that alerts you when people are detected at your doorstep, with no additional fees or subscription required. Custom activity zones restrict alerts to specific areas around the doorstep.

Answering the door has three paths. Ring call places a phone call to you whenever the doorbell is rung, so you can answer without opening the app; quick responses let you pick a preset reply for visitors; and two-way audio with noise cancellation lets you speak directly with guests or couriers. An indoor chime is provided in the box and offers a variety of ringtones. The doorbell also works with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant for hands-free control and monitoring.

Power comes from a 6400 mAh built-in rechargeable lithium-ion battery, with a USB adapter cable in the box; TP-Link rates the battery pack adapter output at 5.0 V, 1.0 A. TP-Link quotes 180 days of battery life at 300 seconds of use per day; the time of use includes recording and watching live views, and actual battery life may vary due to device settings, usage, router specifications and environmental factors. The Tapo A201 solar panel is an optional power source, sold separately. Recordings are stored on a microSD card of up to 512 GB (sold separately) in the doorbell's slot, or in Tapo Care cloud storage, which requires a subscription.

The TD21 connects over 2.4 GHz IEEE 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi with WPA/WPA2-PSK and 128-bit AES encryption with SSL/TLS. It is rated IP65 and operates from -20 °C to 45 °C. You can stick it to a wall with the supplied 3M adhesive or screw it to the wall, and the included horizontal mounting wedge lets you angle the camera toward the area you want to see. An anti-theft button is built in. The doorbell measures 150 x 50 x 38.4 mm and the AU-version chime 73 x 51 x 43.5 mm. The box contains the doorbell, chime, mounting bracket, horizontal mounting wedge, mounting template, 3M adhesive, foam pad, three mounting screws and anchors, five wedge screws, a detaching pin, a quick start guide and a USB adapter cable.
