The TP-Link SM5110LSB-10 is an Omada 10GBASE-BX WDM bi-directional SFP+ LC module that carries 10 Gbps over a single strand of 9/125 µm single-mode fibre for up to 10 km. It transmits at 1270 nm and receives at 1330 nm through a simplex LC/UPC connector, supports DDM, is hot-pluggable, and TP-Link says to use it together with the SM5110LSA-10.

SM5110LSB-10 overview

The SM5110LSB-10 is TP-Link's Omada 10GBASE-BX WDM bi-directional SFP+ LC module. TP-Link says it is designed to extend transmission distance up to 10 km at a maximum rate of 10 Gbps, and describes it as a single-mode SFP+ transceiver that supports bi-directional data transmission, which is cost-saving. WDM bi-directional technology lets it use a single strand of fibre for both directions. The supported data rate is 10.3125 Gbps, the media is 9/125 µm single-mode fibre, and the connector is a simplex LC/UPC. Standards and protocols listed are IEEE 802.3ae, SFF-8431, SFF-8432 and SFF-8472, and the datasheet adds 10GBase-BR.

The wavelengths are 1270 nm transmit and 1330 nm receive. TP-Link's datasheet note is explicit about pairing: use the SM5110LSA-10 and SM5110LSB-10 together for fast and reliable connectivity, so one end of the link takes the LSB-10 and the other end the LSA-10. Optical figures in the datasheet are a DFB transmitter and a PIN-TIA receiver, transmitter power of -8.2 to -0.5 dBm, receiver sensitivity better than -14.4 dBm at 10.3125 Gbps, receiver overload above 0.5 dBm and an extinction ratio above 3.5 dB.

TP-Link lists compatibility with the 10G Small Form Pluggable Multi-Source Agreement (SFP+), and names compatibility with switches with 10G ports such as the SG3428X and SG3452X. The module supports Digital Diagnostic Monitoring (DDM) and is hot-pluggable, which TP-Link describes as giving maximum flexibility. It runs from a 3.3 V supply with power consumption of 1 W or less, and measures 57 x 14 x 12 mm. Regulatory compliance is listed as CE, FCC and RoHS.

The SM5110LSB-10 is rated for operating temperatures of 0 to 70 degrees C and storage from -40 to 85 degrees C, with 10 to 90% RH non-condensing operating humidity and 5 to 90% RH non-condensing storage humidity. The package contains the SM5110LSB-10 module and an installation guide. In summary, it is a 10G single-fibre SFP+ optic for 9/125 µm single-mode links of up to 10 km, with a 1270 nm transmit / 1330 nm receive pairing that is matched by the SM5110LSA-10 at the far end, DDM support and hot-plug operation. ARC IP Networks supplies the SM5110LSB-10 from Australian stock with the full manufacturer's warranty.
