Professional Overview

The Ruijie RG-ES216GC2MS is a 16-port Gigabit smart switch with two 2.5GE SFP uplinks — an unusually fast uplink pair for a switch in this class. Most 16-port smart switches uplink at 1 Gbps, which becomes the bottleneck as soon as the access ports are busy. Two 2.5G optical ports give this switch 5 Gbps of aggregate uplink and a 42 Gbps switching fabric behind it, with a 31.25 Mpps forwarding rate.

Those 2.5G SFP ports are also what make ERPS ring protection practical. Instead of running two separate fibres back to a core switch and relying on spanning tree, you can chain access switches into a fibre ring that survives a single break and recovers in well under a second. For multi-building sites, caravan parks, and long linear runs such as warehouses and car parks, a ring is both cheaper in fibre and faster to recover than a star.

Static link aggregation lets both uplinks be bonded to a single upstream switch for 5 Gbps of throughput and link redundancy where a ring is not needed. Port isolation and Smart Protection loop/broadcast-storm containment handle the two faults that most often take down a flat access layer.

The switch is fanless, rated 0°C to +40°C and carries a 3-year warranty. Ruijie Cloud management is included for the life of the product — zero-touch provisioning, remote monitoring, firmware management and configuration from the Ruijie Reyee app or a browser, at no subscription cost. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.
