The Mercusys Halo H80X(2-pack) is an AX3000 dual-band Wi-Fi 6 mesh system of two Halo H80X units, with a Mercusys coverage rating of up to 460 m² for the 2-pack. Each unit lists 2402 Mbps on 5 GHz and 574 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, supports 160 MHz channels, OFDMA and MU-MIMO, and has three gigabit WAN/LAN auto-sensing ports. Mercusys quotes over 150 connected devices.

Halo H80X(2-pack) overview

This H80X pack contains two Halo H80X units, and Mercusys's 2-pack page rates them for coverage of up to 460 m². The pair runs as one network with a single Wi-Fi name and password, and Mercusys says the Halos switch your devices between units automatically as you move around the home. That seamless roaming requires clients that support 802.11k/v/r and may need additional set-up. Setup is done in the Mercusys app: configure one Halo as the main router at the modem, then position the second Halo where coverage is needed.

The H80X is an AX3000 Wi-Fi 6 Halo. On 5 GHz (IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/a) it lists 2402 Mbps, and on 2.4 GHz (802.11ax/n/b/g) 574 Mbps. Mercusys's Wi-Fi 6 list for this model is a 4x longer OFDM symbol, MU-MIMO, OFDMA, 160 MHz channels that double channel width, BSS Colour and 1024-QAM. Clients need to support those features to use them, and the 160 MHz bandwidth may be unavailable on 5 GHz in some regions because of regulatory restrictions. Powerful signal amplifiers and receivers, beamforming towards devices, and self-healing route selection between Halos are also part of the design. Mercusys says the H80X provides fast and stable connections for over 150 devices.

All speed figures are maximum wireless signal rates derived from IEEE 802.11, and Mercusys does not guarantee throughput, coverage or the number of connected devices. Results vary with network conditions, client limitations and environmental factors such as building materials, obstacles, traffic volume and density, and client location. Mercusys also notes that this product may not support all mandatory features of the 802.11ax specification and may need software upgrades.

Each unit has three gigabit ports with WAN/LAN auto-sensing, six across the pair, and only one port works as the WAN at a time. The H80X runs in Router mode, creating a wireless network for your devices, or in Access Point mode, which extends a wired network and makes it wireless. WAN types are Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP and PPTP, with IPv4 and IPv6, DHCP server and client, WMM, an SPI firewall and local, remote and multi-manager administration. Security options are WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3. The Mercusys app adds connected-device status, QoS, 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz guest networks, new-device alerts, monthly reports and parental controls with profiles, time limits, website blocking and pause. Each unit measures 128 x 81 x 83.7 mm and has a reset button. Mercusys lists hardware versions V1, V1.20 and V2.20. Other Halo H series units can be added; the S series is not compatible.
