The Mercusys Halo H60X(2-pack) is an AX1500 Wi-Fi 6 mesh system made up of one Halo H60XR router unit and one Halo H60XS satellite. Mercusys rates the 2-pack for up to 4,000 ft² (350 m²) and over 100 devices. Signal rates are 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, and the kit has five gigabit ports between its two units.

Halo H60X(2-pack) overview

The H60X kit is built from two different units. The Halo H60XR is the router: it has three gigabit WAN/LAN ports and connects to the internet. The Halo H60XS is the satellite: it has two gigabit LAN ports and extends the coverage. This 2-pack contains one of each, so the main unit goes at your modem and the satellite goes where the Wi-Fi needs to reach. After the H60XR is set up in the Mercusys app, the satellite is powered up and joins the network automatically. Mercusys rates the 2-pack for up to 4,000 ft² (350 m²).

Both units are AX1500 dual-band, with 1201 Mbps on 5 GHz and 300 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. The specifications list IEEE 802.11ax/ac/n/a for the 5 GHz band and 802.11n/b/g for 2.4 GHz. Mercusys lists a 4x longer OFDM symbol, MU-MIMO to connect more devices simultaneously, OFDMA for capacity and efficiency, BSS Colour to mark neighbouring networks' signals and reduce congestion, and 1024-QAM. Signal amplifiers and receivers, beamforming and self-healing route selection between Halos round out the radio design. Mercusys says the H60X connects over 100 devices, helped by OFDMA and MU-MIMO.

Mercusys's speed figures are maximum physical rates from IEEE 802.11, and throughput, coverage and the number of connected devices are not guaranteed; they vary with network conditions, client limitations, building materials, obstacles, traffic and where devices are. Clients also need to support Wi-Fi 6 features such as OFDMA, MU-MIMO, 1024-QAM and BSS Colour to benefit from them. The two Halos share one Wi-Fi name and password, and Mercusys says phones and tablets are automatically connected to the fastest node; seamless roaming requires 802.11k/v/r clients and may need additional setup.

With the H60XR's three ports and the H60XS's two, the 2-pack has five gigabit ports. WAN/LAN auto-sensing on the router means any of its ports can take the modem, though only one acts as the WAN at a time. Router and Access Point modes, Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, L2TP and PPTP, DHCP server and client, IPv4 and IPv6, WMM, an SPI firewall and local, remote and multi-manager management are listed. Wireless security is WPA-PSK, WPA2-PSK and WPA3. In the Mercusys app you can check device status, use QoS, run 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz guest networks, get new-device alerts and monthly reports, and set parental profiles, online time limits, website block lists and internet pauses. The 2-pack box contains one Halo H60XR, one Halo H60XS, one RJ45 Ethernet cable, two power adapters and a Quick Installation Guide. Each unit is an 88 x 88 x 88 mm cube. More Halo H series units can be added; S series units are not compatible.
