Hikvision DS-6704HUHI Turbo HD Video Encoder (DVS) – 4-Channel 5 MP H.265+, HDTVI/AHD/CVI/CVBS to IP, Micro SD, Alarm I/O, ONVIF Profile S
At a glance

The Hikvision DS-6704HUHI is a 4-channel Turbo HD video encoder (DVS, digital video server). It converts up to four analog coax cameras (HDTVI up to 5 MP, AHD/CVI up to 1080p, CVBS) into H.265+ IP video streams, so existing analog cameras can be recorded by a network video recorder or video management software. It is an analog-to-IP encoder, not a DVR: it has no hard drive bay and no monitor output, only a Micro SD slot (up to 128 GB) for local storage. It has a 10/100 network port, RS-485/RS-232, 4 alarm inputs and 2 alarm outputs, and runs from 12 VDC (no PoE).

  • 4 signal types, adaptive input – each channel accepts HDTVI, AHD, HDCVI or CVBS (PAL/NTSC). HDTVI cameras are supported up to 5 MP; AHD and HDCVI cameras up to 1080p.
  • Efficient H.265+ compression – plus H.265, H.264+ and H.264 on the main stream and MJPEG on the sub-stream, to keep network and storage load down.
  • Encoding up to 5 MP @ 12 fps – 4 MP @ 15 fps, 3 MP @ 18 fps and 1080p or lower at full frame rate (25/30 fps), with dual-stream support.
  • ONVIF Profile S – streams can be pulled into compatible third-party recorders and video management software, as well as Hikvision NVRs.
  • Micro SD slot – up to 128 GB for local edge recording (card not specified as included).
  • Alarm and serial interfaces – 4 alarm inputs, 2 alarm outputs, plus RS-485 (half-duplex) and RS-232 for PTZ control and integration.
  • Audio – 1-ch audio input (green-pin terminal), 1-ch 3.5 mm audio output and two-way audio, with coaxitron support on the BNC inputs.
  • Compact metal housing – 114 × 165 × 48 mm, suited to a comms cabinet, ceiling space or camera junction point.
  • Low-voltage power – 12 VDC, 1.25 A, 15 W or less.

Specifications are from Hikvision’s official global DS-6704HUHI product page and datasheet (attached). This is an analog-to-IP encoder for coax cameras: it does not have PoE, a hard drive bay or a monitor output, and AHD/HDCVI inputs are limited to 1080p.

Best for

  • Bringing existing analog or Turbo HD coax cameras into a new IP NVR or VMS system.
  • Migrating a site from DVRs to a central NVR while keeping working analog cameras in service.
  • Remote cabinets where four coax cameras terminate and only a network link runs back to the server room.
  • Integration projects that need alarm inputs/outputs and RS-485 PTZ control alongside video.
  • Sites that need a small edge buffer on Micro SD in case the network link drops.

Who it’s for

Security integrators

A clean way to merge legacy coax cameras into an IP platform.

Facility managers

Extend the life of existing analog cameras during a staged IP upgrade.

Industrial & utilities

Encode cameras at remote plant rooms and send video over the network.

Schools & campuses

Centralise recording from scattered analog cameras on one NVR.

ONVIF Profile S streams for third-party video management software.

Transport & logistics

Bring yard and gate coax cameras into a central monitoring system.

Hikvision Turbo HD Encoder FAQ – DS-6704HUHI

It is a 4-channel Turbo HD video encoder (DVS). It takes video from up to four analog coax cameras and encodes it into H.265+/H.264 IP streams, so the cameras can be viewed and recorded by an NVR or video management software over the network.

No. Although Hikvision lists it among Turbo HD recorders, it is an encoder: it has no hard drive bay and no HDMI or VGA output. Local storage is limited to a Micro SD card up to 128 GB. For recording, pair it with an NVR or VMS.

Each input accepts HDTVI, AHD, HDCVI or CVBS cameras. HDTVI is supported up to 5 MP; AHD and HDCVI cameras are supported up to 1080p, according to Hikvision’s datasheet.

It supports ONVIF Profile S, so it can be added to compatible third-party NVRs and video management software. Hikvision NVRs are also supported.

No. The encoder runs from 12 VDC, 1.25 A and does not supply power to the cameras. It also has no PoE input; use a 12 VDC supply.

It has 4 alarm inputs and 2 alarm outputs, plus RS-485 (half-duplex) and RS-232 serial ports, which can be used for PTZ control and integration with other systems.

The main stream encodes up to 5 MP @ 12 fps, 4 MP @ 15 fps, 3 MP @ 18 fps and 1080p or lower at 25/30 fps, with a sub-stream for remote viewing.

Professional overview

The Hikvision DS-6704HUHI is a 4-channel Turbo HD video encoder, also called a DVS or digital video server. It is designed for sites that are moving to IP recording but still have analog or Turbo HD cameras on coax. Instead of replacing working cameras, the encoder converts their signals into network video streams that an NVR or video management system can record and display.

Each of the four BNC inputs adapts to HDTVI, AHD, HDCVI or CVBS. HDTVI cameras are encoded up to 5 MP, while AHD and HDCVI cameras are supported up to 1080p. Video is compressed with H.265+, H.265, H.264+ or H.264 on the main stream and MJPEG on the sub-stream, at up to 5 MP @ 12 fps or 1080p at full frame rate, with bit rates from 32 Kbps to 10 Mbps.

For integration, the encoder supports ONVIF Profile S and common network protocols, and provides 4 alarm inputs, 2 alarm outputs, RS-485 and RS-232. A Micro SD slot up to 128 GB allows local edge storage. Audio input, output and two-way audio are available, and coaxitron control is supported on the BNC inputs.

The DS-6704HUHI is not a DVR: there is no hard drive bay and no HDMI or VGA output, and it does not provide PoE. It runs from 12 VDC at up to 15 W in a compact 114 × 165 × 48 mm housing. It comes with the full manufacturer’s warranty. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.
