Why choose the DS-3E1318P-EI

The Hikvision DS-3E1318P-EI is the sensible 16-camera rack switch. Sixteen 10/100 Mbps PoE ports share a 230 W budget with up to 30 W per port, so a full complement of fixed cameras — plus a few higher-draw models — runs from one 1U box with an internal mains power supply and no external brick.

Two gigabit combo ports give you flexibility on the uplink: plug in a copper patch lead, or fit an SFP module and run fibre back to the comms room or a remote building. Management covers what a surveillance network needs — 802.1Q VLANs, STP/RSTP loop prevention, port isolation, VIP priority on ports 1–8, port mirroring, LLDP and cable diagnostics.

The PoE watchdog restarts frozen cameras automatically, long-range mode reaches 300 m, and Hik-Partner Pro lets you see topology, PoE usage and alarms and restart ports remotely. It is RCM approved for Australia and supplied by ARC IP Networks as genuine local stock with warranty and support.

Best for

  • 16-camera systems: a whole site on one managed 1U switch.
  • Fibre backbones: run the uplink over fibre via a gigabit SFP combo port.
  • Business networks: VLANs keep cameras off the office LAN.
  • Reliability: PoE watchdog reboots a frozen camera without a site visit.
  • Remote management: monitor and restart ports from Hik-Partner Pro.

Professional Overview

The Hikvision DS-3E1318P-EI is a 16-port smart-managed PoE switch designed around IP video. Sixteen 10/100 Mbps PoE ports deliver up to 30 W each under IEEE 802.3at from a shared 230 W budget, and two gigabit combo ports provide the uplink — each can be used as a copper RJ45 port or, with an SFP module fitted, as a fibre port. Fast Ethernet camera ports are a deliberate choice: camera streams are only a few megabits per second, while the gigabit uplinks carry the combined traffic to the recorder.

Management is built for surveillance networks. 802.1Q VLANs separate camera traffic from business data, STP and RSTP block cabling loops, and port isolation stops cameras communicating with each other. VIP ports 1 to 8 give priority to critical cameras when bandwidth is constrained, and the PoE watchdog automatically power-cycles a port when its camera stops responding.

For installers and service teams, Hik-Partner Pro provides one-click activation, a live topology view, per-port rate and PoE usage, alarm status, remote port restarts and remote firmware upgrades, and the switch can also be managed in HikCentral Professional or from its own web interface. Built-in cable detection finds open circuits, shorts and cable length, and long-range mode reaches cameras up to 300 m away.

The 1U metal chassis has an internal 100–240 V AC power supply, mounts in any 19-inch rack with the supplied ears, and is RCM approved for Australia. It suits offices, warehouses, schools, car parks and any site with up to 16 PoE cameras. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.

How it compares

Every Hikvision smart-managed (-EI) PoE switch has PoE watchdog, 300 m long-range mode and Hik-Partner Pro management. The choice comes down to port count, camera-port speed, uplinks and PoE budget.

Complete your system

Pair this switch with Hikvision or HiLook PoE cameras and a non-PoE Hikvision NVR — the switch powers the cameras, the recorder records them. Keep the total camera power under 230 W and leave a port or two spare for growth.

Browse Hikvision NVRs →Browse cameras →

Works with your system

Copper or fibre uplink. Each gigabit combo port works as an RJ45 port with a patch lead, or as a fibre port with an SFP optical module fitted. If both are connected, the fibre link takes priority.

Hikvision & HiLook cameras

Any IEEE 802.3af/at PoE camera — Hikvision, HiLook or third-party.

Hik-Partner Pro

One-click activation, topology, PoE usage, alarms, port restarts and remote firmware upgrades.

HikCentral Professional

Manage the switch alongside cameras and recorders in HikCentral Pro.

Web management

Built-in web GUI with DHCP client and a fixed “Super IP” (10.180.190.200) for direct access.

Any NVR or network

Standard Ethernet uplink to a non-PoE NVR, a router or your core switch.

Cable diagnostics

Detects open circuits, short circuits and cable length from the switch.

Frequently asked questions

It has 16 PoE ports and a 230 W total PoE budget with up to 30 W per port. Sixteen typical fixed cameras fit comfortably; high-draw devices such as PTZs or heater-equipped housings use more, so add up each camera’s maximum power and keep the total under 230 W.

The two uplinks (G1 and G2) are combo ports: each can be used as a gigabit RJ45 port, or with an SFP optical module as a gigabit fibre port. Hikvision notes that if both copper and fibre are connected to the same combo port, it works as the fibre port.

IP cameras stream at a few megabits per second, so 100 Mbps per camera port is plenty. The combined traffic leaves through the gigabit uplinks to the recorder. If you need gigabit to every device (for example Wi-Fi access points), choose a gigabit model.

A camera occasionally locks up and stops sending video while still drawing power. The PoE watchdog on the DS-3E1318P-EI detects a camera that stops responding and power-cycles that port automatically to restart it — so a frozen camera recovers itself instead of needing a site visit.

Standard Ethernet is specified to 100 m. In long-range mode the DS-3E1318P-EI can reach a powered camera up to 300 m away on its PoE ports. Hikvision notes long-range performance varies with the camera model and cable condition, so use good-quality solid-copper Cat6 for long runs.

Each PoE port supplies up to 30 W (IEEE 802.3af/at), which runs standard fixed cameras and many compact PTZs. Large PTZs, heated housings or devices needing more than 30 W require a Hi-PoE (802.3bt) switch or the camera’s own power supply. Always check the camera’s maximum power draw.

Yes. It is a standard IEEE 802.3af/at PoE switch, so it works with any compliant PoE camera — Hikvision, HiLook or third-party — and connects to any NVR, router or network switch through its uplink port(s).

Through a built-in web interface, through HikCentral Professional, or remotely through the Hik-Partner Pro cloud, which shows port rate, bandwidth use, PoE usage, topology and alarms and lets you restart ports, enable long-range mode and upgrade firmware remotely.

Yes — Hikvision lists RCM approval (AS/NZS CISPR 32: 2015) for this model. It is supplied as genuine Australian stock with warranty and support from ARC IP Networks.
