The TP-Link Archer GE800 is a BE19000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 gaming router rated at 11520 Mbps on 6 GHz, 5760 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz, with 320 MHz channels and 4K-QAM. It has a 10 Gbps SFP+/RJ45 combo WAN/LAN port, a second 10 Gbps WAN/LAN port, four 2.5 Gbps LAN ports and USB 3.0, plus a Game Centre with mobile game acceleration and a one-click acceleration button.

Archer GE800 overview

The Archer GE800 is TP-Link's BE19000 tri-band Wi-Fi 7 gaming router, which TP-Link markets with the line 'dominate the competition'. All three radios run 802.11be: 11520 Mbps on 6 GHz, 5760 Mbps on 5 GHz and 1376 Mbps on 2.4 GHz. Those are the same Wi-Fi figures TP-Link lists for its non-gaming Archer BE800, and the port layout is also the same, so the GE800's difference lies in its gaming software, its acceleration button and its gaming-styled housing. The Wi-Fi 7 features listed are 320 MHz channels and 4K-QAM, and the router is EasyMesh-compatible, works with Alexa and Google Assistant and supports an IoT network.

For wired gaming gear and fast internet, the Archer GE800 has one 10 Gbps SFP+/RJ45 combo WAN/LAN port, which accepts either a fibre SFP+ module or copper Ethernet, one 10 Gbps WAN/LAN port and four 2.5 Gbps LAN ports. TP-Link says the four 2.5 Gbps LAN ports ensure flexibility and maximum throughput for wired gaming devices, and it also calls out a dedicated gaming port that automatically prioritises your game device's traffic so you are not battling for bandwidth. A USB 3.0 port supports NTFS, exFAT, HFS+ and FAT32 drives for FTP, media server and Samba sharing.

The Game Centre on the GE800 goes further than the one on the Archer GE550. Game acceleration covers gaming QoS that detects and optimises game streams, the gaming port, game server acceleration by GPN (a shorter path to game servers driven by real-time measurements), acceleration for mobile games and a one-click acceleration button; the GE550's list stops at the first three. The Game Panel shows network status, router performance, RGB settings and accelerated games and gear. Game statistics provide comprehensive gaming traffic reports by period, device and application, game port forwarding takes three steps, and there is a dedicated 5 GHz gaming band.

Security is TP-Link HomeShield, which on this model lists real-time IoT protection, a malicious site blocker, an intrusion prevention system, DDoS attack prevention and a home network scanner, together with an SPI firewall, access control, IP and MAC binding and an application layer gateway. Wi-Fi encryption covers WPA, WPA2, WPA3 and WPA/WPA2-Enterprise (802.1x), there is one guest network per band, and OpenVPN, PPTP, L2TP and WireGuard are supported as VPN servers and clients. HomeShield parental controls include profiles, a content filter library, Family Time, Bedtime, Off Time, Time Rewards, Pause the Internet and reports.

The router runs in Router Mode or Access Point Mode. WAN types are Dynamic IP, Static IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP, IPTV support covers IGMP proxy, IGMP snooping, bridge and tag VLAN, and NAT forwarding includes port forwarding, port triggering, DMZ and UPnP, with IPv4 and IPv6. EasyMesh lets you add another EasyMesh router or range extender for a whole-home multi-gigabit mesh. Setup and management use the Tether app on Android or iOS or the web page, with automatic firmware upgrades, TP-Link ID and DDNS through TP-Link, NO-IP or DynDNS.
