Before you install

  • Cameras: the AE-MD5043 records analog HD-TVI cameras with Hikvision aviation-plug wiring. It does not record IP/network cameras; for IP cameras choose a mobile NVR.
  • Storage: fit 2.5″ drives in the two bays (SSD up to 4 TB, HDD up to 2 TB each). Hikvision recommends using factory-recommended drives.
  • 4G / Wi-Fi: remote access needs the optional plug-in 4G module, antennas and an industrial SIM card; ordinary SIM cards are not supported.
  • Power: connect 9–36 VDC, ignition (ACC) and ground, and set the shutdown delay so recording continues after the engine stops.
  • AI functions: ADAS, DSM, blind spot detection and driver identification rely on correctly placed cameras on the matching channels; plan camera positions before installation.

Mobile DVR FAQ – AE-MD5043

It is a 4-channel mobile DVR for vehicles that records four HD-TVI analog cameras at up to 1080p onto two removable 2.5″ HDD/SSD bays, with built-in GPS, a G-sensor, AI driver-safety functions and optional 4G/Wi-Fi.

No. It records analog HD-TVI cameras connected through Hikvision aviation connectors. For IP cameras, use a Hikvision mobile NVR instead.

Two 2.5″ HDD/SSD bays: SSDs up to 4 TB or HDDs up to 2 TB in each. It can also record a redundant backup copy across both drives.

4G and Wi-Fi are pluggable modules. With the 4G module fitted, the recorder uses a FAKRA antenna and an industrial SIM card; the Wi-Fi module comes in 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz versions.

ADAS (forward collision, lane departure, speed limit, headway, pedestrian collision, traffic signs), DSM driver fatigue and distraction alerts, right-side blind spot detection and driver identification. Up to three run at once.

It accepts +9 to +36 VDC, so it suits 12 V and 24 V vehicles. Full-load consumption is up to 45 W, and a built-in super-capacitor protects against sudden power loss.

Yes. Hikvision lists EN 50155 (railway electronics), EN 45545 (railway fire protection) and E-Mark ECE R10.

Professional overview

The Hikvision AE-MD5043 is a 4-channel mobile digital video recorder from Hikvision’s onboard security range. It is designed for buses, coaches, trucks and service vehicles that use analog HD-TVI cameras, and records four channels at up to 1080p with H.265 or H.264 compression and dual streams.

Video is stored on two pluggable 2.5″ drive bays that accept SSDs up to 4 TB or HDDs up to 2 TB, with optional redundant recording to both. Built-in GPS and GLONASS add the vehicle position to the video stream, a G-sensor flags harsh events, and sensor inputs log turn signals, braking and reversing. Optional plug-in 4G and Wi-Fi modules provide live view, remote playback and data offload.

The recorder runs up to three AI functions at once, by default ADAS, driver status monitoring and driver identification, with right-side blind spot detection also available. ADAS covers forward collision, lane departure, speed limit, headway and pedestrian collision warnings plus traffic sign recognition, and DSM covers distraction, fatigue, phone use, smoking, yawning and seat belt use.

A fanless die-cast aluminium chassis, aviation connectors, a 9–36 VDC input with super-capacitor protection and a −25 °C to 70 °C operating range suit life on the road, and the recorder carries EN 50155, EN 45545 and E-Mark approvals. It comes with the full Hikvision manufacturer’s warranty. Australian stock from ARC IP Networks.
