The TP-Link VIGI NVR2008H-8MP is an 8-channel PoE+ network video recorder in the larger two-bay VIGI chassis. Eight PoE+ ports share a 90 W budget, bandwidth is 160 Mbps in and out, and it takes two SATA drives of up to 16 TB each (32 TB total, not included) plus eSATA, with a gigabit uplink, 6/4 alarm I/O and 4K HDMI plus VGA.

VIGI NVR2008H-8MP overview

The VIGI NVR2008H-8MP puts eight PoE+ channels into the 330 x 285 x 45 mm two-bay chassis size TP-Link uses for its NVR2016H models. Its eight RJ-45 10/100 Mbps PoE+ ports, compliant with 802.3at and 802.3af, share 90 W with up to 30 W per port; TP-Link notes this is calculated from laboratory testing, and that actual data is not guaranteed and will vary with client limitations and environmental factors. Power comes from a 53.5 V DC 2.43 A supply, and maximum consumption is 8.5 W without disks and 40 W with disks.

Compared with TP-Link's NVR1008H-8P and NVR1008H-8MP, which accept eight channels at 80 Mbps with one drive bay, the NVR2008H-8MP doubles bandwidth to 160 Mbps incoming and 160 Mbps outgoing, and its decoding capability is listed as four channels at 8MP, six at 5MP or eight at 4MP at 30 fps. Eight channels play back synchronously; TP-Link notes fewer than 8, or none, may play if total resolution exceeds 32MP. Live view layouts are one, four, six, eight or nine windows, and record resolutions run from 8MP to QCIF.

Storage is two SATA interfaces, each up to 16 TB, for up to 32 TB in total, plus one eSATA interface; TP-Link states the HDD is not included. One-Click System Initialise handles quick camera additions, HDD initialisation and storage scheduling with a single click. Outputs are HDMI up to 3840 x 2160 at 30 Hz and VGA up to 1920 x 1080 at 60 Hz. TP-Link's highlights describe HDMI and VGA independent output, while the specification table on the same page lists simultaneous output. Other connections are a 10/100/1000 Mbps uplink, front USB 2.0 and rear USB 3.0, 1-channel RCA audio in and out, and six alarm inputs and four alarm outputs.

Smart alarms, which require a camera, include line-crossing, intrusion, region entering and exiting, loitering, object abandoned or removed, vehicle and human detection, abnormal sound, scene change and Smart Frame, with video loss, IP conflict, disk, login and fan exception alerts. Interoperability is ONVIF Profile S and CGI, and web access includes Safari 11+ as well as Chrome, Firefox and Edge. The recorder weighs 2.1 kg, and TP-Link recommends a tray (not included) when rack mounting with angle iron. In the box are the recorder, power adapter, power cable, HDD power and data cables, mounting accessories, mouse and quick installation guide.
