The TP-Link VIGI InSight S485PI is an 8MP (4K) IR panoramic turret network camera with a 1.65 mm lens that sees 180° horizontally. It pairs red-blue warning lights and a built-in speaker for Active Defence with four IR LEDs rated to 20 m in TP-Link's laboratory tests, plus audio and alarm in/out, human and vehicle classification, 802.3at PoE and an IP67, IK10 metal turret.

InSight S485PI overview

The VIGI InSight S485PI is the turret form of TP-Link's 8MP IR panoramic camera, promoted as '180° Panorama View with Huge Vision'. In place of a conventional lens it uses a 1.65 mm F2.0 panoramic lens with a 180° horizontal, 86° vertical and 180° diagonal field of view, recorded at up to 3840 x 2160 from a 1/2.7" progressive scan CMOS. TP-Link points out that general cameras need several units to cover blind spots in large spaces such as hotel lobbies, playgrounds, intersections and warehouses, and that one panoramic 4K camera cuts installation, deployment and maintenance costs while covering more area. DORI distances for the 1.65 mm lens are 44 m detect, 18.33 m observe, 8.8 m recognise and 4.4 m identify.

Frame rate reaches 25 fps on 50 Hz or 30 fps on 60 Hz, and 20 fps when the image is rotated 90° or 270°. Main-stream bit rate is adjustable from 256 Kbps to 8 Mbps with H.265+, H.265, H.264+ or H.264 compression. For H.265+, TP-Link claims storage savings of 57.5% against H.264 and 15% against H.265; those numbers come from its own laboratory tests on a 3MP VIGI camera and will differ with how much activity is recorded, the resolution and other variables. For night-time the S485PI relies on infrared rather than white light: four 850 nm IR LEDs with a 20 m range, which TP-Link calculates from laboratory testing and says is not guaranteed and varies with client limitations and environmental factors. Minimum illumination is 0.005 lux, and 0 lux with IR. Image processing includes 120 dB True WDR, BLC, 3D DNR, HLC and Smart IR, four privacy masks and up to four ROI regions.

Deterrence comes from Active Defence, which TP-Link describes as using deep learning algorithms or external alarm devices to trigger flashing lights and loud sounds in real time, with support for user-created custom voice audio. The S485PI's warning lights are red-blue, and TP-Link says red-blue flashing lights are more effective than white lights and create a strong deterrent when paired with audio alarms. Event alerts are pushed to your phone when the AI detects an event or an external alarm device signals the camera; TP-Link notes AI-triggered notifications support playback of the event clip, while external-alarm notifications support live view only. Other linkage actions are memory card recording, FTP upload, an alarm output device, an alarm server and email.

The turret has audio in/out and alarm in/out interfaces for external speakers, pickups, buzzers or sensors, plus a built-in microphone (5 m radius) and built-in speaker. Human and vehicle classification separates people and vehicles from moving animals, falling leaves and changing lights, and the smart events cover intrusion, line-crossing, region entering and exiting, object abandoned and removal, loitering, people, vehicle, abnormal sound and scene change. TP-Link also lists people and vehicle analytics for this model, but notes the feature is in development, will update with future software iterations and must be used with VIGI specified software. Power is 802.3at PoE (class 4, maximum 21 W) or 12 V DC (maximum 18 W). The metal turret is IP67 waterproof and IK10 vandal proof, measures 112.3 x 112.3 x 110.2 mm and weighs 0.76 kg, with 0-360° pan, 0-75° tilt and 0-360° rotation. It works with the VIGI App, Web UI, VIGI VMS and VIGI Cloud VMS, and supports microSD cards up to 512 GB; the microSD card and pole mounting kits are not included.

Last reviewed October 2026.

180° horizontal, 86° vertical and 180° diagonal through a 1.65 mm F2.0 panoramic lens.

No. TP-Link titles it an IR panoramic camera: night vision uses four 850 nm IR LEDs, and its warning lights are red-blue rather than white.

With its 1.65 mm panoramic lens, TP-Link quotes 44 m for detection and 4.4 m for identification, with observation at 18.33 m and recognition at 8.8 m.

TP-Link rates it at 20 m, calculated from laboratory testing. It notes actual data is not guaranteed and varies with client limitations and environmental factors.

Deep learning or an external alarm device triggers flashing red-blue lights and loud sounds in real time, and it supports user-created custom voice audio.

TP-Link lists it, but states the feature is in development, will update with future software iterations, and must be used with VIGI specified software.

Yes. It has alarm in/out and audio in/out interfaces, as well as a built-in microphone and speaker.

AI-triggered notifications support playback of the specific event clip; notifications triggered by external alarm devices only support live view.

802.3at PoE (class 4, maximum 21 W) or 12 V DC (maximum 18 W).

IP67 waterproof and IK10 vandal proof, operating from -30 to 60 °C. TP-Link notes the microSD card and pole mounting kits are not included.
