Professional Overview

The Ubiquiti U7-IW is a WiFi 7 dual-band access point with 4 spatial streams, designed for 115 m² coverage. Wall-mounted WiFi‎ 7 AP with 4 spatial streams and an integrated 2.5 GbE PoE switch designed for hospitality environments.

On 5 GHz, the U7-IW delivers 4.3 Gbps (BW240). On 2.4 GHz, the U7-IW delivers 688 Mbps (BW40). It supports up to 200 concurrent clients.

The U7-IW features a 2.5 GbE uplink and is powered via PoE / PoE+ (Required for PoE output). Mounting options include Wall / (Metal Wall Mount Included). It integrates seamlessly with the UniFi Network ecosystem for centralised management, zero-touch provisioning, and seamless roaming.

Weighing 400 g (14.1 oz) with dimensions of 137 x 98.7 x 30.2 mm, the U7-IW is built for reliable 24/7 operation. Australian stock, fast shipping from ARC IP Networks.

Ubiquiti U7-IW: WiFi 7 access point

The Access Point U7 In-Wall is a UniFi WiFi 7 access point with 4 spatial streams, a rated coverage area of 115 m² (1,250 ft²) and 200+ concurrent clients.

On the wired side the uplink is 2.5 GbE, it is powered by PoE PoE+ (Required for PoE output), and draws at most 13W (Excluding PoE output).

This is an indoor access point. It carries no ingress rating, so for a veranda, a carport, a warehouse dock or anywhere else exposed to weather, use a unit that is rated for it.

These are modulation-coding-scheme ceilings measured at the radio, not speeds a client will see. Real throughput depends on the client's own radio, the channel width you can actually use, distance and how much of the band your neighbours are already occupying. Our UniFi access point comparison puts the range side by side.

Power comes down the Ethernet run as PoE PoE+ (Required for PoE output), drawing up to 13W (Excluding PoE output). On a switch that shares one PoE budget across every port, add up the draw of every AP before you commit — the UniFi switch range lists the total availability for each model.

The 2.5 GbE uplink is there for a reason: a WiFi 7 radio can move more than a gigabit, and on a 1 GbE port the switch becomes the bottleneck before the radio does. It will negotiate down to 1 GbE and work, but you lose the headroom you paid for.

Who the U7-IW suits

  • Per-room coverage in hotels, apartments and student accommodation
  • Wall-box installs that need extra wired ports beside the AP
  • Retrofitting WiFi 7 where a ceiling AP cannot be cabled
  • Aged care and healthcare rooms where the AP must stay out of reach

Like every UniFi access point, the U7-IW is adopted and managed by a UniFi controller — a Cloud Gateway or Dream Machine, a Cloud Key, or UniFi hosting. The AP does not run the controller itself, and it is not a standalone router: it provides the WiFi, while routing, firewall and VLANs live on the gateway.

It requires UniFi Network 9.0.114 and later. An older controller will not adopt it until you update.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the U7-IW?

The Access Point U7 In-Wall is a UniFi WiFi 7 access point with 4 spatial streams and a rated coverage area of 115 m² (1,250 ft²).

How many devices can the U7-IW handle?

Ubiquiti rates it at 200+ concurrent clients. That is a ceiling under favourable conditions, not a design target — for dense environments size on the number of devices actually active at once and add APs rather than pushing one to its limit.

What area does the U7-IW cover?

115 m² (1,250 ft²) is the published figure. Coverage in a real building depends on what the signal has to pass through: plasterboard costs little, double brick, foil-backed insulation and concrete cost a great deal.

How is the U7-IW powered?

PoE PoE+ (Required for PoE output) over the Ethernet run, drawing up to 13W (Excluding PoE output), within a supported voltage range of 42.5–57V DC.

What uplink speed does the U7-IW have?

2.5 GbE. It will negotiate down to 1 GbE, but on a multi-gigabit radio that makes the switch port the bottleneck.

Can the U7-IW be used outdoors?

No. It carries no ingress rating and is an indoor access point. For covered outdoor areas choose a weatherproof model.

How is the U7-IW mounted?

Wall (Metal Wall Mount Included).

Does the U7-IW need a UniFi controller?

Yes. UniFi access points are adopted and managed by a controller — a Cloud Gateway, Dream Machine, Cloud Key or UniFi hosting. The AP supplies the WiFi; routing, firewall and VLANs live on the gateway.

What UniFi Network version does it require?

UniFi Network 9.0.114 and later.

Is the U7-IW available in Australia?

Yes. ARC IP Networks is an authorised Ubiquiti reseller holding Australian stock with full manufacturer warranty and fast domestic shipping.
