The TP-Link TL-SX1008 is an 8-port 10G desktop/rackmount unmanaged switch. All eight RJ45 ports auto-negotiate at 100 Mbps, 1, 2.5, 5 or 10 Gbps, giving 160 Gbps of switching capacity and a 119.0 Mpps forwarding rate with a 32K MAC table. It is plug and play, supports 802.1p/DSCP QoS and 802.3x flow control, and uses one fan with intelligent speed adjustment in a metal case rated 0 to 50 °C.

TL-SX1008 overview

The TL-SX1008 is TP-Link's 8-Port 10G Desktop/Rackmount Switch, current AU hardware version V4.40, which TP-Link calls its flagship 10G product. All eight RJ45 ports are multi-gigabit, auto-negotiating across five speeds: 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, 2.5 Gbps, 5 Gbps and 10 Gbps (IEEE 802.3an and 802.3bz). The ports sense the link speed of each device and adjust for compatibility, so 10G NAS units, servers and workstations, 2.5G/5G/10G Wi-Fi access points and gigabit devices can all share the same switch. Total switching capacity is 160 Gbps.

TP-Link notes that the switch is designed to integrate into existing gigabit Ethernet cabling: it can deliver speeds up to five times faster over standard Cat5e cable, and with Cat6a or higher rated cable, 10G connections are supported up to 100 metres. Auto MDI/MDIX removes the need for crossover cables, and the plug-and-play design needs no configuration or technician.

Performance figures are 160 Gbps switching capacity, a 119.0 Mpps packet forwarding rate, a 32K MAC address table, a 2 Mb packet buffer and 10 KB jumbo frames, with store-and-forward transmission. These are the figures on TP-Link's AU product page; the linked V4.0 datasheet lists a 16K MAC table, 12 Mbit buffer, 12 KB jumbo frames and 34.6 W maximum power, so confirm if those details matter for your design. Advanced features are 802.1p/DSCP QoS, which TP-Link suggests for prioritising traffic such as gaming, and IEEE 802.3x flow control. LEDs comprise one system power indicator and eight link/activity indicators, one built into each RJ45 port.

The switch has a durable metal casing and a heat-dissipating design that TP-Link says guarantees a wide 0 to 50 °C operating temperature. It has one fan with intelligent fan speed adjustment, using a cooling algorithm that seeks maximum performance with less noise. It runs from an internal 100 to 240 V AC, 50/60 Hz supply (0.8 A), drawing up to 31.2 W according to the AU page, and measures 294 x 180 x 44 mm for desktop or rack installation. The box contains the switch, a power cord, an installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet. It is CE and FCC certified.
