The TP-Link SM6220-1M is an Omada 1 metre 25G SFP28 direct attach cable. It is a passive twin-ax cable assembly with an SFP28 connector on each side, supporting 25, 10 and 1 Gbps data rates over 1 m, with 30AWG silver-plated copper conductors. TP-Link positions it as a cost-effective way to connect within racks and across adjacent racks.

SM6220-1M overview

The SM6220-1M is TP-Link's Omada 1 Meter 25G SFP28 Direct Attach Cable, hardware version V1. It is a passive twin-ax cable assembly of 1 metre with an SFP28 connector on each side, so a 25G link between two SFP28 ports needs no separate transceivers or fibre patch lead. TP-Link's datasheet highlights are a 25G SFP28 connector on both sides and the ability to drive 25 Gigabit Ethernet over a 1 m distance, and TP-Link describes it as suitable for short distances and a cost-effective way to connect within racks and across adjacent racks.

The listed data rates are 25 Gbps, 10 Gbps and 1 Gbps. That is the main difference from the 10G-only SM5220-1M SFP+ DAC: the SM6220-1M is built for SFP28 ports running at 25 Gbps, while TP-Link also lists 10 Gbps and 1 Gbps rates. Conductors are silver-plated copper with a 30AWG wire gauge, and the maximum cable length is 1 m, with an overall assembly length of 1,000 mm (39.37 in).

When routing the cable, respect the minimum bend radius. TP-Link's AU web specification lists 22.5 mm, while the datasheet lists 23 mm; allowing at least 23 mm covers both. The plug dimensions are given as 57.5 x 13.55 x 8.55 mm on the web page and 58 x 13.6 x 8.5 mm in the datasheet, effectively the same size. The SM6220-1M is rated for 0 to 70 °C operation and -40 to 85 °C storage, with 10 to 90% RH non-condensing operating humidity and 5 to 90% RH non-condensing storage humidity.

A direct attach cable keeps a short 25G link simple: one part per link, no separate optics to match or clean, and connectors fitted at the factory. Because the SM6220-1M is a fixed 1 m assembly, it suits ports that sit close together, such as a switch and a server in the same rack, or two switches in adjacent racks. Longer routes, or links that leave the rack row, need a longer assembly or optical modules with fibre. As with any twin-ax cable, avoid sharp bends near the plugs and keep to the minimum bend radius above.

Before ordering, check that both devices have SFP28 ports and that the ports are within 1 m of each other along the cable path. For 10G SFP+ ports the SM5220-1M is the matching 1 m cable, and for 100G QSFP28 ports TP-Link offers the SM9220-1M.
