The TP-Link SG6428XHP is an Omada 24-port gigabit stackable L3 managed PoE+ switch with 4 10G slots. All 24 RJ45 ports are 802.3at/af PoE+ up to 30 W, with a budget of up to 720 W that depends on the power supply modules fitted. It has two hot-swappable PSU slots (one PSM500-AC shipped), four hot-swappable fans, full L3 routing with OSPF, VRRP and ECMP, and stacking up to 8 switches.

SG6428XHP overview

The SG6428XHP is TP-Link's Omada 24-Port Gigabit Stackable L3 Managed PoE+ Switch with 4 10G Slots, hardware version V1. It combines the full L3 feature set of the SG6428X with PoE+ on all twenty-four 10/100/1000 Mbps RJ45 ports, plus four 10G SFP+ slots, two USB 2.0 ports, an RJ45 console port, a USB Type-C console port and a dedicated RJ45 management port. The PoE+ ports are 802.3at/af compliant with up to 30 W per port.

Power is modular, and this matters when planning PoE. The switch has two field-replaceable, hot-swappable power supply module bays (100 to 240 V AC) and ships with one PSM500-AC module by default; a second, redundant module must be purchased separately. TP-Link states that the total PoE budget varies with the power supply modules, reaching up to 720 W. Maximum power consumption is 42.9 W with no PD connected and 916.6 W with 720 W of PDs connected when powered by two PSM500-AC modules (110 V/60 Hz). Cooling is by four field-replaceable, hot-swappable fans.

L3 features include up to 256 IPv4 and 256 IPv6 interfaces, up to 1,024 IPv4 and 512 IPv6 static routes, a 6,100-entry host route table, RIP v1/v2, OSPF v2/v3, VRRP v2/v3 with up to 64 groups and ECMP with up to 32 next hops per destination. L2 features include link aggregation, spanning tree, ERPS, RSPAN, PIM-DM, 2,048 IGMP groups and MLD snooping. Each unit provides 128 Gbps switching, 95.2 Mpps forwarding, a 32K MAC table, a 3 MB buffer and 9 KB jumbo frames.

Stacking runs over the 10G SFP+ slots at 20 Gbps per port full-duplex, up to 8 switches standalone or 4 in Omada controller mode. Centralised management is through the Omada Cloud-Based, Hardware or Software Controller. The chassis is 440 x 420 x 44 mm for rack mounting, and operating temperature is 0 to 45 °C. In the box: the switch, a power cord, an RJ45 console cable, a quick installation guide, a rackmount kit and rubber feet.
